Just picked up new custom SMIK Style lord from Surf FX yesterday and to say that I'm wrapped is an understatement. Rode it at Burleigh point this morning and had a ball in shoulder high waves. Took little while to get going and take the drop but once I got on first wave, the nose stayed up and took off. Such a smooth easy to ride board. I'm nearly 71 and needed a bigger board that would let me catch waves and still perform .Lots of comments on how well the board sits in the water. Great work Scotty getting the board to me and thanks Guy at Surf FX who went the extra mile.

Hey Rocky, nice looking board! I'm also 71 and looking for my next board. I'm only 70kg but pretty fit [for a Gerry]. Can you comment on stability and ease of catching waves, please? It looks like it has very slight rocker. If that's the case, did you feel it might nose dive at any time, or was that totally controllable? And lastly, did you consider/demo any other sups? [I'm hoping to try a Widepoint and a JL Destroyer before I make a decision]

Aye Aye Capt. I have had more boards than you can poke a stick at over the years and have bought and sold three boards over the last year. I did look at other boards but this stood out for me. I'm pretty fit myself despite having had a stroke and heart surgery 4 years ago after bad wipe out.
Have had a Widepoint but did not like it. Last board was 9'2 Sunova Speeed which was a great board but my hips could not take the strain on a choppy day.
At no time did the SMIK feel like it was going to nose dive and I felt in control at all times. This board really did it all for me, really comfortable, stable and easy to paddle. Have a look at SMIK web site as there are a few variations to this board. I'm 80kg and my only recommendations at 71 are don't go too small or narrow. Get comfortable and have fun out there on a 10 footer.

Huge respect Rocky,and Jimbo.At 66 I'm also on a 10 ft smik didn't try the stylelord ,went for the hipster twin instead.coming off a 10-29 -124 litre longboard style sup I have found the extra 10 litres very handy for catching waves,the smirks have an amazing ability to roll onto a wave!,sometimes catching you out HaHa,wou"d love to try a stylelord one day,as I like the idea of forward vee and fin placement,as I tend to surf forward with front foot pressure.The 10ft twin is a challenge for me at the moment,and I am getting more used to it every surf ,I think it's a patience thing.

Another 71 old geezer on a SMIK. How cool is that!

I turn 73 this month and 76kg.
I am expecting delivery of a 6 11 custom Smik Foil SUP board in the next 2 weeks .
The last 2 years my favourite SUP has been a Jimmy Lewis 8 5 Striker at 115 l volume. Very stable for its size, catches waves easily and best small to mid size board I have had.
But who knows I may have to try a Smik Hipster.

Over 70s that makes me the recycled grom,at 66 and having to wait 4 more years to join!!!,how good is sup for keeping us out there ,seriously huge respect to all in this age group as it does get harder each year

Hey Rocky, yes my "other" sup is an 8'10" Speeed which I find fairly unstable especially in a bit of chop. Where I surf we get lake runout, boat wash and wind chop. Not all the time, but enough for me to want a more stable sup so I can relax while waiting for the next wave. Cheers to everyone for all the information and...go the septuagenarians! Maybe we could be the Septer Sup'ers?

You guys rock!! I hope to be so lucky to one day join your club. I was out in the lineup yesterday and look to my left it is the Canadian longboard champ who came in third at the Panam games........at 64 I am precisely 4 times her age and just as stoked to be out there. She was on a short board and omg she could rip turns off the lip.

Still think it's the best board I've had in along time. It's just such a comfortable stable board and just makes catching waves easy.
I bought a Sunova Steeze for my wife and while it's a nice enough board to paddle it's not a patch on the Smik.
