Tom Carroll Paddle Surf represents the very latest in design, innovation and hydrodynamic performance for the surf SUP genre. Drawing on years of ocean experience, and knowledge gained by working with designers and hydrodynamic experts, Tom Carroll along with respected shaper Blane Chambers have created a range of stand up paddle boards that will tap into your inner waterman, and take your SUP surfing to a whole new level.
Unique curves and contours, along with the latest in material technology, feature heavily across two distinctive SUP models. A variety of sizes are available to suit different conditions from small longboard inspired wave riding and cruising, through to the advanced SUP surfer needed a board with no restrictions.
The TC Paddle Surf Long Grain SUP is designed to encourage a longboard style and approach to riding waves.DESIGN: Inspired by Tom Carroll's passion for walking up and down a longboard in small clean waves, the overall design focuses on more efficient water flow over a relatively large surface area. By doing this we offer high volume stability without sacrificing speed and flow.CONTOURS: The unique bottom contours reduce rail volume and drag without sacrificing stability under paddle power. The deep double concave displacement hull allows free flowing water movement through the underside of the nose while also reducing slapping. Subtle concave through the centre leads into a pronounced spiral vee out the tail which provides ample turning abilities and prevents rail-to-rail sticking, especially in uneven, choppy conditions and when driving through unpredictable wave zones. A slight bevel on the underside of the rail enhances trim sensitivity on the wave face.ROCKER: Lower entry rocker and long gradual curves allow this board to maintain acceleration and incredible flow on any size wave. The rocker has also been designed to allow freedom of movement from the back turning zone right up to the nose.FINS: Dynamic 2 + 1 set up comes with the new FCS II TC SUP side fins and a custom 8" TC Paddle Surf single fin. Tom prefers to set the larger centre fin forward in the box to allow for looseness off the tail.PERFORMANCE: The 11'0" delivers a longboard feel and a solid connection to the wave face. This board is perfectly suited to the recreational small wave surfer, and the high volume will also suit the estuary, inlet, and flat-water adventurer. The 10'4" also delivers a longboard feel, but offers more agility and freedom to maneuver easily on a wave. This board will also serve as a great cross-trainer by transitioning seamlessly from the surf to flat water.
These little beauties are due in mid Dec.
Tom brought down his 8'0 to the store a whilst back. Sweet looking board I have to say!
It is a true collaboration between Blane Chambers and Tom, having the chined rails of a Hull Ripper (though much more subtle) and Tom's own unique nose design to suit his riding style - working the whole board, tip to tail. Tom has been working with Blane since 2007, so there has been 7 years of collaboration with these boards!
Good on Global Surf for backing it!

Just got out work out what to put into demo. Hmmmmm.....
Looking at how refined Tom's short SUPs are, it is a pity the bigger long board shapes are typical recreational barges.
So many other manufacturers are knocking out short performance models to the point of saturating the market, but it is still impossible to find a long board model for the more experienced surfer. Again, it is a pity Surftech discontinued their narrower Takayamas, especially given the renewed interest in this style of board. Guess it is time to go back to my Rolls Royce prone Almond and Vouch loggers!
I wonder how his Long Grain models will compare to the Naish Nalu's?
And also the Laird Surfer's?

I'm a bit surprised myself that they aren't a tad slimmer. The 10'4" at around 130 litres would have been nice.

Granted the new Laird Surfers are about as refined a SUP long board you are going to buy off the rack. Still, they are nowhere near as fine as the bigger boards Tom himself rides. Why not stop throwing barges at us and give us a run on something similar?
Why not... just get a large prone longboard instead? (something you can kneepaddle)
maybe add some glass layers on the deck to reinforce it underfoot (it is easy to do)
See www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/The-Paddlesurf
For insatnce the production Bic 9'4" www.zumajay.co.uk/surfboards/longboards?product_id=3154/ at 27.5" wide & 118l may be a great longboard SUP easily available worldwide... but there must be tons of others...
From what i have seen the range looks sick. I think the ocean experience and years surfing that Tom has, combined with Blane Chambers is great combo.
The amount of time that Tom has spent developing, surfing, refining then re-developing can only result in great boards for the guys who actually come from a surfing background as well as everyone else who love to SUP surf, whether on short rippers or long cruisers.
Good on TC for going for it, and putting something out there of his own.

What's the construction details AA?
I was lucky enough to ride the 10'4 x 30" at Merimbula last weekend in 2-4'. Ended up riding it every day in all sorts of conditions. I am not a big fan of the 10'6 size but I did like this board![]()
This gets into waves easily and hunts down open faces like no other with excellent drive and glide. It is also one of the best nose-riders I have ridden.
She has a bit of a tip due to the 'chambers bevel' running down each side, but you quickly adapt to it, realising, as you do most mornings at Merimbula that it is more likely the beers the night before.![]()
The sweet spot is back on the tail pad. Hit it and this thing turns like you would expect a performance longboard from TC to do.
This will be my go-to summer board. Low, in the water and super sleek this thing glides and drives like no other I have ridden in quite along time.
The nose is like a potatoe chip so you quickly learn not to go forward unless your planing, but when you do you can camp up there and lock it on for the long haul.
Construction wise, it is very similar to the DC performance SUP's:
"high-density custom shaped EPS core laminated with biaxial fiberglass, epoxy resin and a distinctive carbon fiber webbing, (positioned on the bottom and around the rails).
The carbon fiber webbing serves to evenly distribute tension across the entire surface area of the board to produce a lively, yet controlled flex pattern with remarkable memory recall. The biaxial fiberglass on the deck serves to add strength and also help prevent delaminating.
Quite a few others tried it over the weekend so I am sure they will give their feedback as well.
Onya TC and GSI for letting it out for the Mambo, sorry - Merimbula Classic!
