Hi guys as stated new member and have purchased my first sup.

Been surfing off and on for 40yrs and have been only riding a mal for last 5yrs but over the last couple of years have been using brothers sup when on holiday back in NZ.

My brother who has been supping and surfing for 45yrs+ and is a very accomplished waterman that still rips on a short board at 60yrs in big surf gave me advice on what board I should get for my level of experience.

So I have purchased a JL Hanalei Sup ? 1 11'2"x31"x4.5"(190L) / White.

I wanted to go the cruise control but he talked me around to the Hanalei as he has the 10 foot one and said it would be the perfect first board

I am 5'11" & weigh 92kg and a young 59yrs

Looking forward to it arriving and getting out on some flat water and getting some practice in.

Great forum and getting a wealth knowledge from all you experienced suppers.

Great choice of board, I reckon. Those Jimmy Lewis boards are things of great beauty. That Hanalei will be fun on the flats and in the waves too. A really good all rounder.

Picked myJL Hanalei from Perth last Wednesday and couldn't be happier awesome looking board and seems very well made.

Spent the last 4 days on flat water practicing paddling and balance and felt confident enough to try the waves.

Perfect day Very light Offshore and 2-3 ft little curlers.

First 4 attempts at catching a wave were all falling off the tail or digging a rail,after 2 hrs of trying I managed to get all the planets in line and came home with 3 nice little waves under my belt.

Really stoked but still a long way to go I find it a lot harder to keep my balance out in the ocean compared to flat water but I feel like I'm progressing by a little bit each day.

Welcome to the Breeze, nice looking board. I have a 10ft as well which is great until you need a 14ft new one and that's just the beginning there are new paddles and all kinds of great stuff to get!!!!

GuD on ya mate! Excellent advice. Learn on a big board. Standing up right and not moving tricky at first, even if you have years of prone experience!
