Last weekend I got my hands on the new Kialoa paddle to try and I took some pictures for those who've not seen it yet.. First here's some info.

The new Ikaika series come in three types.

The Laulau: has a cored black blade and 100% carbon shaft. The paddle comes in 2 sizes, 8 3/4" and 7 3/4".

The Hapa: has a cored Blue blade and 50/50% Carbon/fiberglass shaft. The paddle comes in 2 sizes, 8 3/4" and 7 3/4"

The Pupu: has a solid green blade and 100% fiberglass shaft. Blade size is 8"

Here's what Dave Chun says...

"The paddles have the basic Shaka-Methane-Pipes shapes. I figured, "why mess with a good thing", when it came to the blade outline. All blades are made with CFRT or continuous fiber reinforce thermoplastic.

Why are we building price point paddles? "Because everyone deserves a good paddle". Hard core racers and surfers have a wide assort of carbon fiber paddles. We want to provide quality performance paddles for all levels of participation."

The paddle looks and feels great and would be perfect as an entry level paddle or a second paddle for the wife or kids.. Also it'd be good for rental and demo board use.

I would use this paddle for whitewater river paddling where you don't want to be pushing yourself away from rocks with your good carbon blade paddle.

They should be in shops soon.. Here's my pics.

You do that.. .. Go and see Woogie.. It will be interesting to hear how his compare with your Kilaoa.

Of coarse these look cheaper.. because they are.. .. They're about half price of the others.. btw they don't replace the other 'original' ones..

They would be great to have as a spare paddle just in case the unthinkable happens..

I'd back Woogie's Kia Kaha paddles over the Kialoa anyday- I use Woogie's paddles and I much prefer the stiffer shaft and the way that his paddles don't waiver through the water like the Kialoa's-really off putting to me-just a personal opinion-but I rate Woogie's paddles as 'bloody great mate'!

If that's @ me DJ-wasn't taken that way.

There's always so much chatter in here about Kialoa paddles-when we have a home grown alternative that is, at the least, equal to the task.

Seem to get very few people on here discussing Woogie's paddles-I have 2-I reckon they're great.

Disc-no association at all with Woogie or Kia Kaha.

speaking of paddles DJ , I was recently in San Diego and called into Bobs' Mission Beach surf shop and picked up a new paddle.
He said he knows you through standup zone and asked to say G'day to you.
Common thread as Aussies ,So G'day to you from Bob.

Looks like these would be good for kids, plastic blade would help preserve the board also I would guess. I'd like to know when these are available. Looking for a paddle for my son. Any distributors in QLD??

Hi KaiKane.. Welcome to the Breeze.

I've heard these new paddles will be available next month and I'm sure there's many shops up your way that will sell them.

Give Samantha at Kialoa Aus a call on 0415 769 218 and I'm sure she can help you.
