Hi
Just want to get some advice on these boards. I have been supping for about 9months and currently have a 10ft 28.5w infinity kahuna. I got this as my first board and works nice for me , but at first was hard due to its narrow width.
I put myself in the intermediate level and am chasing a new board that fits my current performance. I ride anythiong from small 1ft cruisers to 4-5ft.
Whats the best allround board for these conditions. Am i better with the nalu 11 4 or 11 6? Or is it best to go to a Hokua? Since i have only ever ridden one sup, im not very experienced with the board selection, and since they are quite hefty in price, would like to make the right selection.
I am currently on a 10fter and throwing it around easy, if i go to a 11 4 or 11 6 is it going to be a big difference, harder to throw around? On the other side, i want something that will pick up waves further out and in smaller waves, im assuming the 11 4 or 11 6 will do this. Will the 11 footers be slower on the bigger waves? I basically want something that will handle small 1 fters to barrelling 5ft sucky stuff, that will still have speed along the wave.
I know there is heaps of brands around, but i have been researching naish as it seems the popular choice, and other boards that are recommended would be appreciated also.
Are the hokuas going to be stable in windy conditions. Another thing is that my current 28w board is ok in calm conditions, but when it gets gusty, it is a challenge on the legs.
Any help would be appreciated guys...
Try the new Nalu 10'6.5 best of both worlds, it throws around like a board a lot smaller yet has the length to catch the smaller waves.
The big Nalu boards may disappoint if you want performance. Big volume and more for cruising.
The Hokua range will provide performance but size will depend on your weight.
Are you in a position to demo any boards? There is a wide range out there.
Have you considered a custom? You can talk directly with the shaper and get exactly what you require. My most recent board is a custom. At 9'1" x 31" it surfs like a shorter board, paddles into waves like a much longer board and has the stability to match.
I've owned an 11'6" Nalu & loved it. It surfs fantastic in any sized surf & can catch anything.
That being said, I've just traded it for a Starby 9'8" Pro. Haven't recieved it yet but I'm pretty excited. I also have a Starby 9'5" Widepoint. That surfs like a short board & at 32" wide its very stable even in bumpy windy conditions. If you want to stay long I'd def go with a Nalu. Haven't ridden one but I think that the 10'6.5" looks awesome.
I have been riding a 2011 11'6" Nalu. Great for the 1-2ft desperate waves when its too small for my kneelo or short board. Wish it was 2 inches wider when choppy conditions but fine for intermediate level surfers. Too big a board for steep beach breaks but great fun otherwise.
It really depends on your style and what you want out of your board,if you want something that is more of a longboard feel go the nalu, but if you want shortboard style performance go the hokua, would probably not limit myself to looking at these two boards when there are so many other great boards out there, just get out there and demo as many boards as you can until you find one that suits your style
