Is there a significant difference in weight between the Wood version and the AST? I have got the 2011 Nalu 10.6 Wood and thinking about getting the new one. I love the look of it but the top coat is pretty delicate. My 14 Glide AST (the old model) seems to be much tougher.
If I look at the Starboards website a comparable model like the Drive shows a weight difference of around 350 grams between Wood and AST which is neglible.

Hi Dirk.. The weight difference is noticeable on land.. but only just.. In the water you would not notice it.

The wood boards are machine made and all the excess resen is squeezed out.. and the AST's are hand layed and it's impossible for them to squeeze all the resen out so they end up slighty heavier.. I would guess only about a kilo heavier.. I would go with the AST.

I'm loving my new 10"6".5 .. It's an awesome board... I also had the old 10'6" Nalu and they are very different boards.. The new one is so much better.

Hi David,

thanks for the feedback. Makes me pretty keen to get one. Although I am rather lightweight (75kg) the larger width/added stability makes it interesting. I paddle mostly at the North Sea/Germany. We only get something which resembles a wave when it is windy and then it is mostly pretty choppy.
Still not sure about the version, we sometimes have to walk quite a lot from the car parks through the dunes to the sea, so every kilo counts.
On the other side better durability (and price)...

Hey Dirk... just in case you haven't seen DJ's great clip:

The new Nalu looks like a good choice ... in either finish.

Cheers, Dave

Yes, I saw it. Very nice. I think I have to clip my GoPro to my paddle as well. Great camera angles.
