Afternoon all,
First post here as I'm looking at getting myself a stand up paddle board and getting into it, so I've stumbled across this forum and have found it a fantastic resource so far and look forward to spending more time on here!
So a little about me. My name is Rob, I live in Sawtell NSW right across the road from Bonville creek and am 30 years old, 6'3 and weigh anywhere between about 95kg and 105kg depending what I'm doing in the gym and the kitchen at the time. I'm reasonably fit and I've come to realise that as well as being bloody good fun and a great way of spending time out on the water, having a stand up paddle board would add some variety to my fitness and workout regime. So I've decided that I'm going to go ahead and get one, the question is one one to get...
I was looking at cheap ebay stand up paddle boards as a cheap entry into things but I've come to realise that that's probably a false economy and that I might as well spend the extra money to get a better board that will serve me well over the years. Also if I ever get other boards, this one can then be used by family and friends when visiting as it'll be good for them if they're new to it.
So as mentioned in the title, I'm a complete beginner who has no real surfing experience and has only been out on some of those hire boards a couple of times. So at the start all I plan to do is learn to use it and improve my skills in the local creeks, before trying to use it as a different form of a workout. Then once I've got the hang of it and am pretty confident on it, I might take it out into the deep blue into some small waves and see how I go out there.
So after spending some time on here reading up on various reviews and threads, it seems like the Naish Nalu 10'10 would be a good board for what I intend? I'm a mad keen fly fisherman and spend a fair bit of time out on my Hobie kayak fly fishing, so eventually I'd like to try and fly fish off my stand up paddle board, though I realise that probably requires a great deal more skill than I will possess for a quite while, so I figured that the Nalu 10'10 board sounded good for that too.
May I ask those of you who are familiar with this board, whether you think it sounds like it'll suit me? Also if there are any other boards that you think would be a better fit for what I plan to do with it, please let me know.
Cheers, have a good day and thanks in advance for any responses,
Rob
I'm also about 6'3'' and 95 kg..
I think the 10'10'' Nalu would be a perfect choice..
It windsurfs great to..
.. Welcome to The Breeze.
10'10" perfect for what you want to do with it. The only time i had trouble fishing off it was when i hooked up a big ray! Surfed great for a beginner board. Scared a few people with it.![]()
Thanks for the replies fellas. While up at the Goldy the other day I popped into Surf FX for a chat and to have a look at a few boards and gear and the guy there confirmed that the 10'10 was the perfect board for me and what I plan at this stage. He had one and even fly fishes from it too..
I guess the only thing to do now is to buy one! There don't seem to be many around second hand so I guess I'll be getting a new one![]()
Cheers and thanks again!
