I'm in the process buying a new board. Have been using my old allrounder (10'6) now for 2 years almost everyday during the summer months (it's cold where I live...) but now need something with better speed. I'm using it for fitness and occasional races in the choppy water that I normally get. I also get a fair amount of up and downwind activities so it should hold well there too.
Currently looking at the 2015 Javelin 14’ x28” GX or 2016 Glide 14’ x29” GTW.
What are the pros and cons you think?
Will the Jav hold well against cross winds?
I know both of these boards well.. Both are great boards and you could almost toss a coin to decide..
Both do well in side/cross winds with the Glide being my preference in headwinds..
The Jav is slightly faster and noticeably lighter but the Glide is more at home in choppy water and although it's heavier.. it's more durable and stiffer.. So unless racing and max speed is your main priority I'd steer you towards the Glide.. The Jav also requires quicker footwork to keep the board in correct trim in downwind conditions and the Glide is more relaxed in the same conditions.
This is my 14 x28 GX Jav..
and my 14 x29" Glide..
And how do these boards compare to the 26'' Maliko DJ ?
Interested to hear your feed back on the Maliko dont see to many of them up in QLD.

The Maliko Jav is on a whole different level.. So much faster and glides for much longer.. It's like there's much less drag or something but some of that is due to the narrower width (24+26) and even the 26 like I have is a full 2" narrower than my 28" GX Jav.. and it's light.. Super light.. You can feel the faster acceleration with each paddle stroke.. But it's not all good.. I find the 26" width a bit tippy.. (but I'm almost 100kgs and almost 60 yrs old).. It has a quick initial tip and tips a fair way before you feel the secondary stability of the rails kicking in.. and the nose doesn't like going under like the other two boards.. But a good paddler can antisapate pearling and avoid it most of the time.. I have my fingers crossed that Naish bring out a 28" wide Maliko Jav.. That would be perfect for me at my weight/age and ability..
DJ would you say that the Maliko dosnt pull up as well as the 29" Glide when the nose starts pearling?

You do feel a slight slowing when the nose goes under on the Maliko Jav.. along with a little splash.. and when the nose breaks free you feel the sudden acceleration again..
With the Glide and other normal Jav there seems like there's no slowing and hardly a splash when the nose pearls.. The nose on the Maliko Jav has noticeably more lift (rocker) so it tends to not go under as often as the other two..
We we should find out soon if Naish have decided to bring out a slightly wider (28" wide) Maliko Jav..
While we are wishing for new boards, how about a 26" wide version of the Glide 14x29, in a fairly-light-but-affordable construction?
I appreciate that it would compete with the Jav for people, and they want the Glide range to be for casual users, really. But that shape is so good it would be a shame not to capitalise on it, and not have an affordable board for lighter riders, as well as taking care of the big units.
DJ - Looks like their will be a new Naish Maliko but not sure of the size.
Nice.. Thanks for the pic..
The 50 Knots vid is great DJ...hop on the wave and go! You did make me judder a bit when at 3.35 secs I saw your Velcro hanging down like all the stick had gone...and on a 50 knot DW lol!
