Hi there,
I have been riding the Hokua 9'6" for 6 months now.
Lately, I have some doubts about the fins configuration installed - I'm using 3 same size fins.
Any recommendations for a different fins configuration 2 + 1? 4 fins?
Are Naish using standard fins?
Can I replace the Naish fins with other brands?

I personally prefer a 2+1 fin setup and would maybe try something like a 6inch centre and maybe m3 sides in that board or as a quad maybe g7s or g9s front and m3s in the rear. When the 9.6 first came out here a poplular quad choice was the simon anderson large quad set which are basically m3s rear and a slightly bigger than m7 up front. If you go to or ring around any decent surf shop they should have an fcs test centre which is a selection of most fcs fins that you can borrow to try on your board. There is absolutely no need to go out and buy to try fins to experiment with - chase up one of these test centres near you. Shapers are also doing their version of these test centres now and also have an awesome range of fins to try. I would suggest you ring or email both fcs and shapers australia and find out your nearest stockist who has fins to demo. If you don't have any joy pm me and I will find out your nearest stockist for you. No = I dont work in the industry, I just hate to see people wasting their money on fins when there are freebies around to try.

Put FCS HI (Harley Ingleby) tri-fin setup in a customers board and he was much happier with the board than the quad config....these fins are much larger than the standard FCS fins (ie M7 etc...) - food for thought.

Gidday fellas, speaking of the 9'6" Hokua, just got my hands on one, reasonably happy with stock setup fins, however am keen to try out the Simon Anderson Qaud upgrade that everyone seems so stoked on. Here in little ol NZ this kind of hardware is tough to come accross second hand so was just wondering if there is anyone out there with a set of these SA quad fins that would be keen parting with them......

have scoured the buy and sell to no avail.....

so if anyone out there has a set of these that they might wanna part with PM me, happy to cover shipping obviously so no dramas!!

shakkas!!

Spoke to the guys at Naish about this, cos my Hokua 9'6 felt over-finned with the 4 x M7 config I got it with. They said go for it, so have replaced the rear fins with GLs (9cm) and it's all good; I don't feel like I've lost anything at all, but have gained a whole lotta looseness Definitely no problem replacing the Naish fins with other FCS-compatible fins, and I'd thoroughly endorse johnyguns advice - experiment! It's fun.

nice1 billyD, yeah the M7's for front AND rear seem like overkill, always good to trial and error with fins, can get mighty expensive tho, even second hand! The GL's that you're running in the rear are like side biter shape or trailer shape (ie 50/50 foil)

any idea if there has been any planshape changes since the original 9'6" was released in 2009? all i can see is a change in decal and the addition of a trailer box so you can run it as both thruster and quad?

Yeah I saw your post re that, I don't actually know what changes they've made to the Hokua. I'll try and find out, be useful to know for when I come to try and trademe my own Naish I'll let you know what I discover.

Some low priced fins at http://www.thepaddlecompany.co.nz/products.php?pt_id=3. Basic plastic moulded stuff, but they work fine, these are the GLs I got in my Naish right now, you can see their shape there.

i got one of those fin box adapters so you can put an fcs fin in the back box as well and put sunny garcias all the way round on my 9'6 psh......works a treat....but anything over maybe 3-4 ft might need a 6 inch in the back maybe.
