I am trying confirm the weight a 2019 Naish Glide 14' x 29" GTW. Looking online the specs say 14.2 kg. The shop that I spoke to that sells them in Qld, tells me they are around the 12 kg mark. Have to get it on the roof of a van that is over 6' 5" high. Loading from the back of the van is not always an option.
Any additional feedback on this board regarding use for flat water and some open ocean use would also be appreciated.
Thanks.
I had a Glide and it was a heavy one but I loved it and it was great in all the conditions you are mentioning but it was not a GTW. I do however have a Mana GTW and it weighs 12kg so I would doubt a 14 ft Naish would be the same? Check the Naish website it will tell you there but I would expect it to be a bit over 13kg.
Actually I just checked the website and it says 14kg and from memory my GS was 16kg so it sounds about right. Maybe consider a Carbon board due to the height you have to lift it to, my new one is only 9kg and I know Rob at Jimmy Lewis has some deals on some of his boards. Either way any 14 ft board is a good move.
DaveSandan, given the fact that you have owned both the Naish Glide 14' and now the Jimmy Lewis Sidewinder 2, if I am looking for a lighter version of the Glide, do you think the Sidewinder may be what I am looking for? With a dodgy knee, I do not move around on the board. My feet stay pretty much planted from start to finish. Stability is important. I am currently on a 12'6" x 30" Glide GS despite the fact I weigh 80kg. I am an intermediate paddler spending most of my time on flatwater but would like to incorporate some coastal/offshore touring in the future. Looking at the Jimmy Lewis website, it appears that the widest Sidewinder is 27", this may rule out the Sidewinder as an option anyway. Your opinion is appreciated.
BTW, the other option I am considering for these purposes is the One Evo 2.
Hi Dave the GTW 's are very strong ,my 2015 GSX 28x 14 javelin carbon is 14 kg .its not to bad ,but the carbon can pressure ding .as mine is full .
I did then buy a 11,6 GTW glide .it was 11kgs ,but very strong .and full gloss on top.
if you need to throw it around a lot ,try and find the lightest 14 available .
so basically it is heavier but stronger .
you will have extra length going from the 12,5 ,so you will get some more stability .but 28 suits me .I'm 98 kgs .

Hi Dave
Here is some more info on the EVO 2.0 if it is something you are considering. First vid is Ben talking about the new EVO and the 2nd is Ang and Kate comparing the EVO 2.0 and the Storm 2.0, this was Angies first DW paddle after 6 months out from a torn Achilles and the board still seems to work really well with her only being able to move very slow.
All EVO 2.0 boards are molded PVC wrapped so built as tough and as light as possible!!

I also have a bit of a wonky knee, and I'm close to your weight, so I'm wondering how the 12'6 x 30 Glide handles under your 80kgs?

Hi Dave
i have the 27 wide Sidewinder and it took a few long paddles to get the feel for such a light board however I think it is actually more stable than the Glide due to its shape. Weight is so good when I put it on the roof which is high. Walking to the beach is easy and I am less fatigued after a long paddle. When I lost balance on the Glide I was gone, when I loose it on the JL I can bring it back and not fall in, maybe it's practice maybe not but I think it would be worth a look.
The rocker is very different and my Glide was faster on the flat but took more effort, but the more I ride it the better it gets even up wind is just as good as a board 7kg heavier cutting through chop.
Spirit4earth, the 12'6" x 30" Glide is super stable. Absolutely no issues there. I haven't used it offshore/ ocean paddling. However in a range of conditions in rivers, lakes etc I have not found it tippy at all. Having said that, as previously mentioned, I am planted in the middle of the board and not stepping back and forth so I can't comment on turning ability from the tail. If I can find a 14' sup that meets my needs, my Naish Glide will be up for sale. In comparison, I have paddled my friends Fanatic Falcon which was 14' x 25" and I couldn't even look over my shoulder behind me without almost falling off. I am after a 14' that I can paddle efficiently and with stability on both flatwater and ocean and keep up with friends on their 14' sups, and still lift on top of my van with the racks at 6'5" high.
Paul.j, I live on the Central coast of NSW. Is there anywhere near there that I could demo an Evo 2 ? If I am better off contacting you by phone please let me know. Thanks for your input.
DaveSandan, thanks for your input. I will try and organise a demo on the Sidewinder 2 and see how I get on.

DM sent, thought it might be easier rather than filling up this topic!

That sounds good. I don't need to turn from the tail, and I don't really have space for a 14'. I was just wonderi g if the board was too big for your 80kg, but it sounds like it's not.
