Our run of good swell has finally come to an end but hopefully it looks like there's more on the way in a few days so it was a good opportunity to take the new 10' Jimmy Lewis Striker for a spin in the high tide conditions out front...
There's a lot of hype & interest around 10' sup's again which is unreal & it's like sup has gone full circle taking us back to the beginning when all there was to choose from were 10-12' boards...
The Noosa Festival & a few of the sup clubs are testimony to this with participation & interest in the 10' sup class at an all time high...I'm soooo bummed I didn't enter the 10' division at Noosa :(
I asked Jimmy towards the end of last year if he'd ever thought about doing a 10' Striker & adding it to the range of his most popular model & he thought it was a great idea...We tossed around a few dimensions & came up with the new model 10'0"x 31"x 4.2" (151.9L)
Being only 80kg & a long time longboarder and shortboarder I still wanted the 10' to have performance characteristics & not just be a big boat but yet for it to still appeal to a broad market unlike some of the other 10 footers on the market...Nor did i want it to be a longer version of the already popular 9'5 Striker which does suit a big guy....The new 10' Striker is less than 5L more than the 9'5...
So along with the new 8'5 Striker Jimmy produced a beautiful 10 footer...The volume distribution & rail line is perfect for such a big board & yet it still weighs less than most carbon boards & with the 5 fin option it makes it very versatile off the tail or as a nose-rider & yet the Striker is soooo stable & glides beautifully & effortlessly through the water....
As Jimmy's blurb says-
Ride the Nose, Hit the Lip. Best of Both Worlds.
Low rocker and full deckpad for nose riding.
Down rails and tight carving tail for high performance turns...Self regulating Gore Vent.
Swept center fin and side bites. JL Signature I-Beam Construction.New:2017 models come in 2 NEW Sizes...8'5" & 10'0"New:2017 models come with Quad fin options.Low nose rocker for nose riding and great flat water paddling, while the tail rocker and 5 fin set up gives the Striker great small to medium wave performance abilities, making this a ultimate all around board! Full length deckpad for posi-traction nose riding.
8'5" & 8'11"- 7" JL swept fin and 4" side bites
9'5" & 10'0"- 8" JL swept fin and 4" side bites

The weight is also a real surprise.

Hey Rob,pretty sure the 10-0 won't be my last JL.
Had some pretty good waves recently, great trim speed and lift when on the nose.
Looking forward to some winter swells.

cheers!

I reckon I'll pull the trigger on one of these after tax time. I like that style of board with the lower rocker and I like the quad option.
