If it's the one that slides out of the board, found it dodgey, better off with the ledge style like ECS and naish
Thanks for the advice. I could only find them on the Cloudbreak and SupATX brands in Australia, so havent seen in person yet.
One of the SUPYoga instructors I chatted to in the US swore by them as said it made boards easy to carry and stopped a lot of dropped boards, as the regular slot handles were very slippery and hard to manage for girls when wet. she said it the handles made it easier getting the boards off a jetty into the water and also into a pool.
A lot of the US and Hawaii brands seem to have them but not many Australian ones.
Hi Supyoga
I was curious about these handles and bought a few of them in fro the supplier in the US.
I have only fitted to 1 board and it seems good, they do make it easier to handle the board.
They feel a bit weird as the handle has a bit of movement before it locks into place, which may be why pohaku didn't like it.
The new ledge handles like naish ect are really good as well.
Cheers Chris
Hi sup yoga,
In am not exactly sure where to get the naish style handles, mine came on my naish board. However there are people around this forum that have bought them. I think FCS make a ledge style handle as well with an integrated vent but when I asked them about this they said they are wholesale only and to buy off a retailer. The only ones I could find were in the us and freight was ridiculous. Maybe someone in the know will chime in with some suggestions.
Cheers chris
Just bought my first "crossover" SUP and carrying the board is a real pain as it is 31" wide. Have been out in small waves and alot of fun, and I weigh 90kgs, so probably about the smallest board that I could use. I really need to fit a handle and the Liftsup looks perfect, but does anybody sell them in Australia? From this pic, they certainly appear strong enough, too!
On another thread, someone had suggested a long strap secured at two points on the board and slung from your shoulder. I bought two leg rope plugs from my local surf shop for $5 each, drilled two 25mm holes in the board and epoxied in. With the heat here at the moment, the resin cured in about 10 minutes! I had a old padded board bag shoulder strap lying around, conveniently with clips on each end, so was able to try it straight away. All I can say is that it works perfectly, is really comfortable, and will just leave on the beach with a towel, while out in the water. Hopefully the pics show how I did it.
Other thing i forgot to mention about the liftsup handles is you need to make 2 router templates. One for the body of the handle and one for the top flange.
To do this you will need some scrap mdf or ply plus a jigsaw at the minimum. A set of forstner or spade bits is super handy for doing the corner curves in the template.
It is a super deep cavity (cant remember off hand) to rout out, i took a bit of hunting to find a bit long enough to do the job.
Accuracy of how you cut these will have an impact on how much resin you use to fit the handle. I set mine under with a full cloth insert under the handle but i think the recommended method just uses a resin fill like the probox installs.
Cheers Chris
