For those that have ridden the JP Surf Wide Body, how does the Super Frank compare? I have a 7'4" Wide Body, and it is stable enough for me (77kg) but seems to yaw side to side pretty easily when paddling for a wave.
I have not ridden either of them :-) but I have ridden various boards of various shapes
The traditional "widebody" style boards have a lot of curve in the outline, thus they yaw very easily. The advantage is that it is easier to initiate a turn on the wave without having to properly engage the rail, or move your foot on the tail, even in weak waves. It is also easier to adjust the trajectory during a turn. The drawback is that they have a lot of row effect, paddle slower (they are wider to compensate the unstability of the narrow tips), and can be unstable at speed.
"wide everywhere" shapes (Tomo, longboard) have more parallel rails and have the opposite qualities/defaults. And pulling the wide point forward like the superfrank may also make the rails a tad more parrallel, straightening the rail curve in the rear half of the board.
As always, they are just different compromises.
