Guy's,

I have just recieved my new SUP. Was disapointed to find out they supply crappy plastic fins with the board. Anyway I'm 87kg ride in 1-2ft beach and reef breaks.

Can anyone offer some advise about Quad fins. Was thinking Shapers S9 In the front S7 in the rear.

Most other topics are about 3 fin setups. I have no choice but to use Quads as this is how the board is supplied out of the factory. It's Quad or it's nothing.

Thanks in advance to anyone who may offer advise.

PS the little boards go rite off

I am around your weight and have a set of Gerry Lopez quads which I will be fitting to my 8ft 8 JP when it arrives next week

I've not had much chance to use them before to be honest but in the two outings I did I found they did the job fine. They are probably taller than some quad fins but didn't find that an issue at all...probably a good thing for my weight.

The JP WP are pretty popular, so I am sure you will find someone with specific experience.
I am on the 9'2 nsp, and recently tried a couple of combinations in small conditions, including the Carbon S9's in the front, and 5's in the rear. I was expecting to see an increase in drive etc, but the only thing I noticed was that it stiffened the board up a lot, making turns much wider and generally not very enjoyable. I tried 3's in the rear and it improved a little. Next I tried the quad set SQ3, which made the board a lot more responsive, and felt really good. It was a little slippery as you would expect, but by no means uncontrollable and in the small conditions it was fine. This is what I will stick with.
I will definitely be keeping the 9's for bigger days, but for smaller days drive is probably less important than maneuverabilty, especially for short beach breaks.
I am not sure the relevance of the above for a wider board though, again, hopefully someone with the JP may be able to provide more specific info.
Scott.

Howdy, I have an 8 8 JP surf wide body. Local guy at Oke inserted a 5th fin plug, FCS, super duper addition. Over 3 foot I go thruster , under 3, Quad or Nubster in the centre. Opens the board right up, love it all around now in all sorts of waves from 6" to 8'!
I got a set of FCS GL1's as the main fins. It's just sweet!
