As i was washing my board off ..after a epic session ..i couldnt help but stand back and admire it .
How important is rocker in the board ,is it the combo ,of flat in the areas where you need it and enough nose lift to not catch .have you got a board that's spot on ?
i usually ride my 130 flow but when it's perfect .the 8.7 120 litre flow comes out .I reckon this is spot on as far as rocker line and speed....for ripping .as soon as you catch a wave on this you know you have the looseness and the right amount of speed to shred .is it the size or just a fantastic rocker line .Bert got this one right ,it's a beauty .
i was thinking it could also be the 30 1/4 wide .+ shape +size .for a 97 kg bloke .
i really notice the speed in turns .over the 130flow.

Hi, Tardy. This my theory which has been elaborated from surfing, shaping and finally designing board on 3D program.
The most important thing is that any board has to have the 3 dimensions geometry rail line in adequation with the wave face you are riding or the way you are riding both wave and board. So it means that are outline, rocker and therefore the 3D rail shape which is the final combo of all has to fit the curl of the wave you are riding...I would say like a nut spinning along the thread of its bolt.
Once that said, more the thread is tight hollower the wave face and your turn tighter and if it's less the wave or the ride is mellow.
I hope this quick explanation will be understandable.

it seems the smaller the board i go the better i surf.ever in small surf this board does well.

That's kind, Tardy, didn't find yet my best board because it is hard to choose between compromises. As you said smaller the board is better you surf and I'm 100 percent with you. So anytime I find a good file shape on Shape3D, I look at it and want to reduce it to its minimum size. Here I'm looking at Fish SUP of 6'9'' 27.4" 86 liters to shred the summer waves here at my home break.

The Flow has minimal tail rocker ?

I love my Flow 8'7... I think Bert got this shape right in this size. You don't hear much about smaller Flows, the 8'10 gets some chat but mainly it's the 8'7.
This could be for many reasons, we may be all of a certain age or kg's.. but I think mainly it's the Board.
The planshape, the aesthetics, the weight, the construction.. all of these just "look" right.. and I think this transpires into the water.. We think we're on something that looks great, so we surf better on it.

As far as the rocker goes, the tail is actually quite flat.. take the fins out one day and get hold of a straight edge, place it mid Board to the tail and you'll see where the rear part of the pad to the tail is it's quite flat.. I think this adds to the "planing" speed of the board, keeping the water flowing over it quickly leading to a looser feeling in the tail for rad moves..

But no doubt, the 8'7 Flow is a keeper...

I'm thinking about getting some custom art graphic put on mine, can't decide what yet (not as extreme as Marty's 7'11 Speeed) ..

its way smaller than i could ride kami ,but a 8,0 at 30 might work for me ,but a nice trick board shape ,for medium sized waves.??

This tiny board would be built for tiny waves as well to get the front foot straight on the nose and having the abilities of the prone fish short board.

Back on your thread about rocker and outline of the flow and WhatGbootsand SunnyBouy said about the amount of rocker tail lift, I 'm going to point to the wide point position of the Flow. This wide point position is a very important parameter of the whole board and Bert did adjust this combo of rocker and wide point perfectly.
