Okay so i currently have a Whopper which i have used a bit but really play with it more on holidays so i'm not great, yet![]()
Last holidays my wife gave it a go for about 10 minutes and didn't fall but obviously it had a effect.
On Friday night out of the blue she announces that she'd enjoy doing a bit of paddling with me
So my next question is what board![]()
I'm 92 kilos and surf often. I have only tried my Whopper in the surf once and it felt a little weird. My wife is only 76 kilos but same height as me. So would i look at something a bit more suited for Paddling. Like maybe a Drive, 11 NSP chasing some suggestions please. I don't think she will ever surf it
But what about something smaller in length, and maybe weight![]()
I do think it will often just end up as a second board for me so not really chasing another whopper![]()
If you're "really" looking for a surf type board for yourself that will still be nice & stable for your wife & you want to stick with Starboard, then maybe a 9'5 Widepoint. They surf great & for guys 90-100k & for someone your wifes size, would paddle well in flat water.
I'd also look at the 9'5 or 9'10 Hokua, or a PSH 9'11 or 10'6 Ripper.
There' plenty of threads on all of these in the forum.
I reckon the Naish Nalu 10'6.5 would be a great option and worth considering - along with the others that have been mentioned. I'm mainly into surfing but i wanted something that would have good glide and be good for longer paddles to escape the crowds.. I love mine as a mal-style surf SUP. It's also pretty good for a casual paddle on flatwater. My wife likes it too.
It makes the Whopper look like the raft from Papillon.
There's some good info on this thread: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/Review/Difference-Between-2012-and-2013-Naish-Nalu-1065/?SearchTerms=naish+nalu
Cheers ![]()
I think i'm decided on a 10'5" Drive. Now just to find one second hand if that's possible![]()
Or do i just buy something that is available, or bite the bullet and go new![]()
Why not consider a second hand (12.6) race board?Heaps of fun in tiny stuff as well as DW capabilities. I picked up a cheapish carbon BOP a year ago and use it heaps. No doubt all the hard cores will be looking to update their race boards to the 2013 models for Chrissie.
Interesting that SB are moving into (carbon) shortboards.Saw the 2014 prototypes in Bali last week![]()
Okay running out of time now as i need it by next week to go away. Nothing really second hand that Ive found but have looked (online only) at the NSP new model Element 2. They have a few different sizes and i can pick one up brand new with a paddle for under a grand.

I'm thinking maybe the 10'6"or even the 11' ![]()

Lets hope it goes done well for a xmas pressie..![]()
