Hey all,

I was all set to buy MYSELF a Fanatic Allwave for my birthday, but my kind wife got sucked into some internet group buying thing and bought me a:

10' Honu SUP

For my birthday instead.

Anybody know what these boards are like? Anybody want to BUY this board with a paddle from me for some low low price so I can get the one I want.

Why is life so complicated...

Just googled it - looks like she bought a 'bargain' SUP!

I'm not in the market sorry, but thought that it reminded me of my own story of a past pressy my wife's parents got me for xmas.

Over 10 years ago I had my eye on a 'top-of-the-line Beefeater' bbq & planned on bricking it in at home over the holidays. Xmas day arrived & I spotted the in-laws reversing down our driveway in their ute with a large cardboard box with Taiwanese text on the side. It turns out they got wind of my plans to build in a bbq & decided to buy a 'bargain' bbq from a cheap hardware chain!

Over 10 years later & that bbq is still sitting on the back outdoor area (not built-in) but is getting used for every barby we have & as it turns out was a great gift!

Remember - "It's the thought that counts".

I had one of these. It served the purpose of cheaply getting me addicted. It was very stable and I did have a lot of fun on it.

If money doesn't come into the equation then there's simply no comparison to an allwave. It'll be far heavier (mine was 15kgs) and a lot less fun in waves. If you know you will like riding a SUP then get rid of it and get the Allwave.

Oh yeah, the paddle is absolute crap

Thanks Dash. I haven't actually got it yet. Which is one more annoyance...:)

I've already demo'd the allwave and loved it. Tried a 9'2" and was totally stable in wind and chop instantly (I've done a lot of windsurfing but that was amazing given my previous few attempts on much larger SUPs). I'm thinking I'll get the 8'10" on that basis so I'll grow into it - I'm only 80kg.

Hm hopefully Sam at the shop will be able to move the board for me. Anyway as the other kind reply said: it's the thought that counts!

Tell her you'd already bought an allwave and were just waiting for the delivery. Luckily you were also going to buy one for her as well so she can have the Honu which will be much easier to paddle. If you're really brave tell her she can have it for her birthday.

Great idea...just make sure she doesn't decide that the Allwave is hers!

Cheap Presents! Reminds me;
In laws bought their grandson a $20 skateboard from Kmart or similar with "ABEC-1" bearings... Except the ABEC bearing rating system works in reverse... 1 = a bearing which rotates with a gritty sand sound... You really want at least 3's... But they advertised how good 1 is!! Plus the wheels were like soap... Good and bad... Nah, mostly bad! Complete waste of $20!!! The rubbers had zero memory too... Horrible board!

I recall riding it for about 20 seconds and shaking my head in shame!!

Sounds like you may need to do a double trade in to me, one for the board and one for the wife.

Well now I've gone and bought the Allwave - but have to hide it at Sam's shop until the 10' present arrives...ah life!
