Ive always been curious, and often joked to my mates that I could probably paddle their probe longboard.

i tried it today! My mates board is 10'0 x 22 and maybe 70l.

surprise, surprise! Managed to get it going and paddled in to a nice little wave hahah. Certainly doable although a little sunken and twitchy at first.

Yes it is an excellent training exercise!

Although at 100kg it was a bit a circus act to try it on my 70l 9' prone board... and I overheard a girl on the beach (I was fooling around during a flat spell, close to the beach) saying:

"Wow he is so fat, look how he is sinking his board" :-)

Hahahaha nice one! Yeah the first few seconds on this one definitely sunk the board and had to get it moving pretty quick to balance out the wobbles.

On the wave it felt nice though! Like a super performance longboard sup

Some of those Walden Mega Magic longboards have straight up SUP levels of volume. Just a few inches narrower.

Don't forget these big wave boards are 3 inches plus in thickness so carry a lot more volume than traditional prone short boards.

And it has to be said they need it in order to generate speed to get onto these giant waves.
