It has come to our attention that there seems to be way too much industry driven threads and biaised advise given on the site and obviously some people arent happy about it - and its also apparent that many dont give a rats either.
For anyone out there interested in reviews and advise from non- pros who dont "rip" and dont get off on posting endless gopro footage of themselves and have absolutely zero industry/brand/shaper affiliation then feel free to PM or post to us at tassiesup and ask all the dumb questions and board advice you want.
We aren't australias best sup'ers but we are all competant surfers and paddlers - we mostly ride a wide variety of all the latest boards on the market - we have very good relationships with local and interstate retailers and we get absolutely nothing from them other than excellent service (usually)
We all surf and paddle in different places on a variety of different sups and we constantly share our boards and our thoughts and experiances with each other.
We also mostly all have mates/ girlfriends/wives/ kids etc who are just geting into sup so we can really relate to the needs of the new sup'ers and those paddling with, and teaching them.
We get literally dozens of emails each week asking for board advice and from people just wanting to talk shlt - we just love it and love sharing our love for it.
So if theres anything you wanna know or want us to find out for you drop us a line or post your thoughts and questions.
Yep .. I agree completely.
Another aspiration of Tassie SUP is to get SUPers together
for comp, demo and fun events.
Can't wait for winter so we can have round two
of the Tassie SUP Perpetual Winter Classic and BYO Demmo Day.
All States invited
Winner takes all
State title up for grabs
Me and Skatehead (current title holder) will be doing
intensive pre-comp training in Fiji.
We are even hoping that Spencer will come back
to defend the KFC Encouragement Award.
Sorry
I omitted Clifton who is State BOP champion
and Annie who is Ladies State BOP and Wave champ.
Hope they will also defend their titles.
I rekon a good way to get info on a board, paddle etc, is to have chat whilst at the beach. Met some great people this way and made a few close friends along the way also. Its a nice way to pend time in the water waiting for the sets to come.
Have a good Friday all
Hi tassie sup
Can't help but think it was my recent post about my new Coreban Edge that kicked you off. You would be correct that I am bias towards my new board or I wouldn't have brought it, that much is obvious. We are all intelligent people and any reveiw is only going to reflect the bias of the reviewer weather the are affiliated to brand or not. You to will be bias towards your own preferences.
As a newbie I have searched through these forums endlessly reading reviews and gained much information that has led to a much better purchase for me. Gopro footage etc is just fun to watch. The motivation for posting my reveiw was simply to give a little back to the community out there in the hope it might help someone else.
For the record I work for an electronics manufacturer and my wife owns an optometry practice so there was no financial interest in my reveiw. Just stoked with my new board and wanted to share it.
Your heart is clearly in the right place but your comments about chest beating race board owners are divisive. I would rather encourage more reviews as they are great starting points and as I said in my post follow up with demos to form your own opinion as this matters more than any reveiw.
Personally, I don't mind posts from industry-connected guys...saves me from having to go look for a lot of stuff. As an adult with a modest education I like to think I can discern the sh1te from the sh1nola.
Tassiesup apologises for the "chest beating" comment and wishes to say that this comment was purely the personal opinion of one of the committee and not the general opinion of tassiesup as a whole. Everything else as posted stands as stated and we make no apologies for questioning the intentions or ethics of some of the posts/posters on this site.
Yes - some of us have had small discounts on boards as we have to source 95% of them from the mainland and as such we do everything possible to get good prices because the freight kills us. To my knowledge though nobody is currently riding boards that theyve been asked to pimp/promote etc. This however hasnt always been the case - even in recent times wholesalers/ retailers have offered up very cheap boards in return for promotion/reviews/pics and the like - to the best of my knowledge these requests have always been knocked back.
We are more than happy to be open and honest about our boards - good and bad - about time for some real tranparency so people can make decisions based on all the facts and not just the spin.
Mate I think you are dreaming of the 50's.
Vast majority of people on here are like minded wind, surf or sup stoked. They talk up their purchases as they believe they made a great choice. Does not mean it is the best choice for everybody.
I find it a bit weird you come on here and slag off everyone as pimps. Why not start your own pure site with only 'honest' reviewers. Like the Ke nalu board showcase back in the day.
sponsored dudes comments are still worth hearing.... i for one wouldnt ride a board that was rubbish even if it was free!
Personally i liked the chest beating comment. thats some funny sh$te.
We are not saying if you get a new board you shouldn't get on here and talk it up, what we would like you to disclose is if you have been given a good deal on the condition that you get on here and talk it up.
And then you see he post " has anyone seen one of these" by some no name and 1 comes back and tells us how great they are.
if i like a board i'll put something up and maybe the retailer likes. with my reputation, maybe they don't.![]()
if i don't like a board i've tested i don't say anything.
i have bought boards and gear from all the local shops and shapers, but at the end of the day i'm my own man- warts and all
ps. i've found the local retailers give honest advice on the boards they sell and 9 times out of ten they are on the money.
i think the buyer owes it to themselves to be honest with what they want and their ability.
You haven't by any chance started your own religion recently have you?
Classic! ...I was thinking the exact same thing.
TassieSUP I'm not sure if I get why you posted this on a popular SUP forum? You seem to be saying you're right and the whole concept of the forum is wrong and your club is the answer....our salvation from the evil of bias reviews.
It's an entertaining read though ![]()
I want to know what Tassiesup's position is on the post-race sausage sizzle before I pick a side. I'm a bit suss that he hasn't mentioned it yet. ![]()
I think we've got it pretty good with the retailers in Sydney:
- they want to fit you to the right board
- they're supporting demo days
- they're holding trials and races
- they're out paddling in their local area and giving advice and lessons
In short, they want the buyer to come back when they're ready for their next toy (and we do like new toys eh?).
I have no affiliations other than club ones btw. I just trawl the net for sup-related gear way more than is healthy....I knew I had a problem when I started going to this site and running the comments through google translator www.standup-guide.fr/compare?404-14
