One of the hardest things for me to do is to make my mind up on a board with so many to choose from, however I was seriously look at the psh 8'6 wide ripper but have found it near impossible to find any left, which brings me to my second board i've been looking at the 8'2 wide body surf by jp.
Would like to know anyones thoughts on this board.
I mainly ride 2-4ft crumbly surf, I weigh approx 74kg, really just looking for a board that I can throw around a bit but still have ease of catching waves and isnt to much work paddling about.
I currently ride a psh 9'2aa but really now want something more shortboard like but not to short and small in volume if that makes sense, I would prefere a bit more stability and fun as opposed to something thats say 100-110 lts.
Anyones thoughts on this board if you have one or have demo'd one would be great, if you could include your weight and what conditions youve ridden it in that would be helpful also.

I tested the wood version 8'2" a few months ago. my weight is 75kg
the waves were 1m high and it was very choppy and windy.
the board is very stable and turns nice. I really liked the quad fin set up (wich is the only possible set up if I remember well).
I have a starboard converse (9x30 137L) and standing on the Jp 124L did ask some adapting but once you know where to place your feet it's very nice.
also the board manouvers really fast both on a wave or behind the waves. liked it.

I've got the JP and really love it. Its felt a bit tippy when i started on it but soon realised i wasn't falling off just it felt tippy. I take it out from flat water to over head high and in messy windy days too now. It easy to get out on as it just seems to peices the white water and remain stable. On waves nice, tight turning and flowing. I moved down from a Naish 9.5 mana. I notice with the mana i paddle out with feet parallel but on Jp i have one foot slightly forward and this stance seems to work best. Just shortened my wave paddle to 2in's above head and with JP this combo works sweet and makes me attempt all sorts of surfy tricks..anyway I recommend the JP board as its stable (once you realise you'e not falling) and does everything i aspire to on the waves. even got it vertical on waist high shore dump yesterday as it will turn sharp when you want it too.

I've had an 8'2" wide surf carbon since October and love it, I'm 80kg (depending on how many beers the night b4) and find the board very stable and easy to surf. As not a huge fan of quads it took a bit to get it set up how I liked, but in smaller surf I have medium size c-drives in the front and standard m5s in the back, for bigger surf I put the large c-drives in the front.
I find these fins give it a bit more drive off the bottom thus more of a thruster feel, if you're a 4 fin fan I'd go with some stiff M5s all around.
This board is all about fun, in small surf you can slide it around and still pick up waves easy, in surf over 5 foot, a bit of care has to be taken not to slide out on the bottom turns.
then i expected. goes over foam better than a wide nose board should. kick turns on a dime which is a major plus when you have to fight with a crowd
Funnily enough, if I wanted a 7'4" I would have bought one and at my weight the 8'2 makes for a good choice as far as I'm concerned because in small slow waves (which is what I surf it in mostly) it is easy to catch waves, while still turning on a dime and still allows me to go out on windy choppy days and enjoy surfing rather than spending the whole time trying to stay on the board.
As far as fin selection is concerned, I tried the HI1 quads which would work out rather similar to your choice and found it rather uninspiring. So I went back and took a look at what the guys at JP had put with the board after all their R&D and although you would have thought that with a carbon board they would have put something a little better than plastic fins, their choice of all the same size seems a good one, but the c-drives just gave me a little more drive.
Anyway that's just my 2 cents worth.
And wave2000 I think you'd find the wide surf an absolute blast:)
