I'm looking at getting my first SUP and was after a bit of advice.

I am thinking of buying a Naish Nalu 11'6 but was worried it might be a bit big for me. I'm 178 cm tall and weight 80kgs. I intend to use the board for mainly flat water paddling with the occasional venture into the surf when it is really small..... I ride a 9'6 walden mal normally.

I would appreciate any advice.... cheers

Go the 10'6.5" Nalu instead

Nalu 11'6 is a huge board, the Nalu 11'4 has a lot less volume and a nice longboard shape and imo would suit your needs perfectly and a lot easier to handle out of the water

I had an Nalu 11'6 as my first SUP and I weigh about 78Kg.

I agree with what everyone else is saying go the smaller board. The 11'6 Nalu is fine on flat water but becomes a real handful in any surf, it's surfable but is just big.

I sold after one season and now have a 10;5" starboard drive which I love.

Yes its a big bugger - But its 230l carries both kids and me and can whack a sail on too

Doesnt glide as well as what I thought it might but we (whole family) love it.

Here is what DJ said in another thread - it convinced me

"I once said that if I only had one board that would be it.. There are so many big 11'6" boards now that are just as good if not better but I think the big 11'6" Nalu is a classic and I'm sure you'll love it.

I remember once talking to Robby about the big 11'6" and was surprised to hear him rave about that board.. I was thinking that he might think it's just a board for beginners and kooks."

Its big.............actually there are tankers smaller than those puppies, and I should know i still got one!

It will do what you want but its so corky in surf, my daughter about 75 kgs likes paddling it in the flat more than my 14'er so thats saying something. I reckon if you were a good long board surfer you could throw it round but for a kook like me it doesnt turn well in the surf.

Something smaller will do a better job of both and you wont fell like you are on a tanker............having said that if your still keen to buy one, mines loved and for sale...........cheap

^^^^^^I agree, still a super stable board but easier in most circumstances, including carrying to the water.
Unless you want to transport the footy team, of course

Thanks everyone for their advice.

I thought it might be too big. I'm now looking at a second hand Fanatic Fly Allround Wood Edition 10'6" which I think will suit me better.

Also considered a Nalu 11'4 but it is a bit out of my price range.
