Hope somebody can give some advise.
I'm new to this sport and I only want to purchase one board.
Interested in small surf mainly and the occasional paddle on flat water.
I'm 6 ft and way about 88 kg.
If you are only going to get 1 board, I would go with the 1065 nalu. Great longboard style board in the surf and will be more fun on flatwater. 95 is not going to be a great place to start. Too steep a learning curve. Try them both and you will see. Personally, I would buy a used 11 foot allarounder like an nsp or many others get comfy on that and then figure out what the next step is. We all would love to have only one board but over time, it doesn't seem to work out that way.
Try to demo as many boards as you can too!
Thanks for that Kojack,
I sort had my mind made up anyway and most people I spoke with did recommend the Nalu.
I will try them both as well.
At the end of the day one can always sell and get the Hokua at a later stage.
I'm completely new to this, but I've done a lot of first board research and the Nalu 10.6.5 is my choice.
The Hokua 9.5 has very little volume, a better intermediate would be the Mana 9.5 (based on all I have learnt).
My target board after mastering (and keeping) the Nalu 10.6.5 is the Hokua 9.10 in my current thinking ... but who knows what reality will be. For now I'll enjoy the Nalu and take test ride opportunities where I can.
I've made the mistake in the past of jumping into water sports gear that requires more balance and skill than I had at the starting point and since have decided to listen to the advise of those I feel should be knowledgeable.
On a 2012 Hokua 9.5 you will spend more time in the water than on it, its a great surfing board but i couldn't live with it for flat water paddling full stop.
So get the 10.6.5, no doubt about it.
