Hi crew just after a bit of advice on hokua 9'3 2009 .I have naish mana 10' but after something can throw around more .hokua is at a great price just after feed back on people that have had this board ,i am able to try before i buy just bit concerned with stability because lot of people i talk to recomend to go for the shorter boards with the width over 30".been looking at 8'2 starby wp or 8'10 wp or 8'5 pocket rocket even thought the 9.0' mana looks good .waves this board would be for is when gets a bit big for mana 3-4 foot waves would be in clean conditions because when winds up ill be kitesurfing.i weigh in at 80kg .thanks for any advice cheers calbs.
Calbs,
The 9'3 will be a large step from your mana but if you are willing to give it some time and effort it will reward you in the type of surf you want it for. IMHO this is a far better option than a short board on the wrong side of 30".
the things to be careful of are:
1. the 9'3 runs a early large amount of rocker, so its not that fast to paddle into a wave, but this is one of the things that makes it work so well on a wave.
2. the deck is fairly rounded so your "sweet spot" on the deck will be smaller than the actual deck, this coupled with the thinner width will make it far less stable than your mana.
3. the rails on this board are pretty thin, again awesome when they are biting into a wave face, but not as stable as the thicker rails on some short boards produced since then which are designed to make narrower boards more stable.
that being said these are all the things that make this board perform in proper surf, which is where the wider short boards will suffer. As long as you are the kind of person who takes to things like a dog to a bone, then my advice would be to grab this board at a good price and hang with it until you get it humming.
Like A-bomber wrote, its a big step but its doable.
I rented last autumn the Hokua 9.3 at the Canary Islands when my WP8.10 needed a repair.
The WP is a lot more stable and in the beginning you will have a lot water(swim)time and miss some waves on the Hokua9.3, but once you know how to work it the board is awesome. On a wave it simply outperforms the WP on every point except maybe in extreme slow waves ,where your Mana shines, and confused water.
the Hokua feels lighter, more responsive, has a better grip and speed, so when i c
Unfortunally for me I paddle most of the time in confused, choppy and slow waves so I kept my WP8.10, but after searching a long time for a Hokua9.3 without succes I bought for the holidays a Hokua9.0 ![]()
