I've been looking at wind gens to buy recently too. Found this: http://www.pwt.net.au/windturbines.htm

The guy compare several common brands and gives his opinions. Website design isn't too great though.

Main requirement for a wind generator is you get a quiet one. If you get one of the noisy models apart from driving you crazy, every one else in your anchorage will end up hating your guts in no time at all.

I like either the Ampair 100 (which is built like a brick ****house but has less output than some of the others) or the Ampair 300.

The Rutland 914i is a popular unit. Like the Ampair 100 it has the stumpier blades which cuts down the noise but puts out more power than the Ampair 100. The Ampair units I think use a heat sink to dissipate current when it's not needed. I'm not sure how the Rutland copes with current when its not needed. Both Ampair and Rutland sell controllers.

More on Rutland here: www.marlec.co.uk/off-grid-products/windchargers/rutland-914i-windcharger/

And these guys I think distribute them out here

Best is the D400 it's the most expensive, the heaviest and the most efficient.

I also looked at the DuoGen it seems a interesting concept!

What I like about the DuoGen is you don't need a S/s superstructure to mount it....just bolts onto your safety rails!
