I am about to fit my new windows, heading to bunnings tomorrow to buy sealant and glue them before the rains comes back.
What sealant should I use?

If or when I do it, I will be following this blokes method.

Mine has a frame and I don't want to spend a fortune on fancy tape. Just looking for a good silicon

Mate, acrylic or polycarbonate either way you need the right primer for the sealant, and it ain't cheap.
lve just looked at a bathroom that I painted a year ago and the no more gaps is hanging in there real good, would I try it on a boat ? Problely not
if you have to go to Bunnings then sikaflex is your best bet and clean the bedding area up with metho

If you have to use silaflex the secret is to not bolt the window down hard while the silaflex is still soft.
Leave it for a while [after every thing is in place] and when the silaflex has gone off tighten everything up.
If you just tighten everything up straight away you will end up with a sealing thickness of near nothing

Best to use that fancy tape as its more like a putty that holds it thickness.

I suggest using a MS polymer sealant like fixtech fix 15.

Easy to work with, cleans up with meths, and doesn't go off in the tube. Much better than sikaflex which I used previously.

I agree but that makes it hard to get nice finish and speaking of such things masking tape an edge appropriate for a digit shape fillet, dip the said digit in spit or soapy water and form a nice fillet (wipe excess on someone else ) remove the tape before the sikaflex starts to set

Haven't had the pleasure of playing with fixtech, but I will keep an eye out for it

I used Soudal T-Rex and Fix All on resealing my cabin windows. Seems to be working fine and is certainly a lot more economical than Sikaflex.

Hi I went down that path with a few jobs onboard but as time progressed discovered it is not UV stable, goes sticky and yellow, have reverted to Bostiik simpson msr construction adhesive sealant. A little dearer but it works !!

it's really one of those jobs you want to do right and do once! don't skimp on the adhesives/sealants...

No primer , just scour the mating surface. There's a blow by blow on their website. Btw only screw to join the surfaces wait the time required I think I gave it a few days to be sure as there was a bit of a bend to apply and then remove screws and dob a bit of fix tech in the hole. Use a nice smoke and it's invisible.

I have done a few sets of windows using Fixtech. It works well and I got some from Road tech marine. I would not recommend saving money here. I have had leaky windows and they are a pain. Use 5mm glazing tape from ebay and buy a box of fixtech. No fastenings or maybe one at each corner of the plastic. Tape around to reduce mess and come back after a day and clean up more with meths .
