Been sitting in comfort of aircon. this weekend watching the Cadel Evans Cycling races down on the Bellarine Peninsular and saw the Festival of Sails boats coming in yesterday and multiple shots of Corio Bay and GYC. It reminded me of some I did , a couple with my brother and a wild Irishman who was an amateur photographer .he took the below shot in one of the races around Corio.
In the 78'sh race it was only me and my youngest brother on a Columbia 27. The race start was wild and rough and after three or so hours of being absolutely flogged and nearly being run over by a container ship that loomed out of the rain with horn blowing "I'm going left"we decided to call it a day . Unbeknown to us ,no mobiles back then my brothers first wife called mine to confirm we had left . My wife assured her I would go in any conditions. Low and behold brother got home three days early to find wife in bed with tennis coach. Divorce.
Following year with Brother who was between wife two and three ( hell he was just 30) and the Irishman we did the race and on the Saturday night had a couple at one of the pubs . I left early telling them not to get to Pi...ed. Around two I heard close females laughing and my brothers voice above the partying saying something like 'here we are girls' . I though OMG what's he up to I'm a happily married man.
Anyway I was saved the task of refusing entry when I heard one of the girls say "this is it? we don't party in the basement anymore bye"
The trip home that year was the first time I had ever seem someone skiing behind a yacht flying past me at 100 mph so it seemed .Wind was blowing off stern quarter flat seas and boat was the new Apollo V ,if I remember correctly, navy blue hull). I banished brother from overnighters after he married number three and happily he's still married

He took some great photos on the water ,mostly black and white ,for effect he would say. We nearly threw him overboard in one of the westcoasters with him taking photos of us at the most inopportune moments.
