I occasionally check the tide on Willyweather. Yesterday, we needed to be precise so did the full Standard port, secondary port & tidal curve calc. Noticed that whilst WW was spot on with the time , the height was way out (WW was set to the closest secondary port location)

Have since confirmed with WW that, whatever the location, they just show the nearest Standard Port - which could be way out, especially if the nearest Standard Port is not the correct one for the relevant Secondary Port - as happens here in the south of the Great sandy strait.

Anyway, I never use WW tides for more than a casual glance, but thought it might be of interest.

Aren't tide charts normally called "predictions" for that reason, they're not exact due to immediate weather conditions?

The fundamental tide calculations are based on gravity of Earth Moon and Sun at a particular time. They are quite accurate.

But amongst groups of islands, estuaries, river mouths etc that calculation becomes unreliable because the depth and currents effects the flow and the predication needs to be based on observation. Only the important ports have those and are therefore accurate. Elsewhere the predictions can easily have error.

Actually something entertaining - ask whoever what causes the tide. My brother who's 1 year younger than me was straight into ummm ummm never thought about that

Of course, tide predictions are estimates - but they're a lot more accurate if you're using the most appropriate location on the tables.

Willy weather tides where almost 1 meter out on there predictions today in my area. And the obsovations don't compare with BOM wind obsovations.?

when we have BOM I cant understand why anyone would bother with anything else ........... they all must get their info from BOM and then stuff around with it anyhow !

Navionics and gold card was far more accurate than willy weather.
