I think they are allowed to anchor provided it is purely on their own resources.

So it's not non stop in a literal sense. Ok to anchor only (no moorings) and any other tactics such as laying ahull or heaving too. Those last two would be impossible to prohibit as they are survival tactics.

You can find the rules at sailspeedrecords.com. They can anchor or beach but only on their own resources with no assistance or resupply. A mooring would be categorised as assistance, you can't take onboard stores, materials or equipment.
According to the Seabreeze Tassie page gusts to 55 kts. Heave to and go below time for me.

Some of the Island locals saw him, apparently not in close enough to get really good shelter, but no doubt it would have been some handy shelter from the worst of the front.
Its still blowing hard, over 30kts.

There's some pretty intense shipping through that area, I wouldn't be surprised if Andy heaves 2 quite a bit to get some sleep because he would most likely be pretty exhausted from the night watch.

I think you are right there. Tracking 085 at 1 kt, that would be a bit of current and leeway.

Theres a big high coming through tommorow S.A looks like he is running and tacking with storm sails in the lee of King island what else can you do. is it that he's trying to get a record that he can't anchor, use the motor and be unassisted? Or is it something on his bucket list?

It's a record he's aiming for

So, as far as I can make out, if he completes the journey according to plan regardless of how long he takes, he will become the record-holder???

Yep. Easy peasy, just have to sail 21,600nm non-stop, alone and unassisted. What could possibly go wrong?

We should ask Andy to keep an eye out for all the broken Imoca 60 bits on his journey.
Can you mount half a carbon foil to an S&S 34?

Its very interesting tracking his journey.
I go to his YB tracker to get his lat/lon, then go to the nullschool wind map to see what sort of winds he is getting.
Is there anymore info available from his tracker, other than lat/lon, position & track?

Anyone know what Andy is using to get the weather?, as he seems to be doing a pretty good job of putting himself in the right place, & have a good idea of what weather is ahead.

The weather charts indicate he should have an ideal northerly winds to head W/SW but he is on a NW track towards Esperance. With a SW change in a day or so this doesn't make sense to me.

Yes a definitive course change a day or two ago. Does seem strange.

His track is dead straight for over 50nm, motoring on tiller pilot perhaps.

Probably planning to cross the Indian Ocean at a higher latitude. Heading into the prevailing winds and heavy seas in the 40's would not be much fun. Watching the Vendee boats the last few days at the same latitude going the other way, they still had a hard time of it.
