Dunno uncle bob not all my stuff below decks are stainless. Door handles,engine parts , light fittings, coat hooks, TV etc. I would be seriously worried if my pantry become submerged!
My geuss is it will give me at least 10 years before they need replacing.

I will pm you when they need replacing. Solid stainless would be expensive and difficult to machine. What's your solution to stop doors from flying open?

I spent a half hour in Bunnings and half hour in mitre 10 ,boat supplies,carvan supplies and online whitworths. What I got was the best I could find although the freight was more than the product! Btw I don't like that brass look. Looks old fashion like some members on this forum!

your a tough task master i showed you my best latch and it was not good enough for your show us your latch thread. Well then that sorts that then, I've got some very clever cupboard latches but they're brass and old worldly lookin so....not for the modern boat
what's next, gaffs and bow sprits will be out of fashion

You done ok sandS, like the dude at Bunnings the only latch that I was intested in that might work was brass looking, he said you could paint it! I said no thanks!

Jeez you are cheap SandS!! There are a few things I need. I will send you a list. I don't mind cheap and nasty or old fashion as long as it does the job.

I am not trying to impress anybody so as long as it keeps the locker door shut and lets it open when I want it to, that will do the job. My boat is not blessed with anything so grand as a "pantry". Only place I have ever seen those is in a house.

I think the Ladies would find the polished timber and brass such as inside Ranger a lot sexier than beige and white leather in a old boat that has been slicked up to try and make it look modern.

Hi, personally I like the spring loaded catch installed on the inside of the door accessed through a finger hole that lets you release the catch and acts as a door pull. The round timber ring is remarkably similar to the one in the pic beside your stove. The fittings used to be available from Whitworths, presumably still are, and give a nice clean uncluttered look.

Agree they are good latches Uncle bob I have several scattered through out my yacht.
I just felt the need to have something a little diffrent for my new hinged plexiglass doors.
The reason for my post is to see what everyone else uses to secure doors and lockers as I couldn't find much in stores and online. I have seen push button styles on modern boats but have never experienced fitting them hense why I have gone the barrel bolt style, Cheers

If they are the fitting I think you are talking about then I don't think Whitworths sell them anymore. I got my two replacement latches from the US. Lesson learnt here is find out how much you can fit into the same freight cost and buy more bits and pieces for the future.

I like your plexiglass doors Southace. There is nothing wrong with tarting up an old girl. Of coarse the J class Cisco shows has a WOW factor. Bugger the ladies, I find it sexy. But I am assuming most of us here don't have a few million Euro to have a new boat built to look old.

I try to keep a little old boat feel in my re-fits such as cream/White upolstery suede with some timber trimming, I just find the complete old school timber fitout rather harsh on a cold night for the ladies and myself but thanks for your imput again Cisco kid.

Yes, I see your point. With any habitable yacht, if it is cold and harsh outside but not warm and soft inside it will not attract you to it, let alone the ladies.

Cisco I think you are mistaking the aircon ducts as speakers , my speakers are box speakers mounted on the forward bulkhead. The upolstery guy is a girl and working on mates rates and this was her 1st upolstery job after purchasing her industrial sewing machine in June. fabric and zippers etc cost $700.
Anyway this seems to be a thread drifting of coarse, Im still eager to see how the laches perform if they ever arrive.

any caravan parts shop will have something like this in stock and when locked is flush with door. Being plastic it can be easily color coordinated to much your classic or modern furniture.

I'm reasonably happy with my new latches although not stainless they do the job that's required. I was going to add knob handles but seems to work ok by just holding the latch catcher. Ok Next job!
