Hi all.

I am going to sell my 1980 Endeavour 26. Nice boat, but in today's market, not worth a lot. I am guessing I would only get upwards of $3k for it. If I am lucky. It is in good shape. Has no internal fittings except for 2 bench seats/bunks. Engine has been removed.
It has 2 beautiful racing sails, main & No.1. See pic.
It also has a new Dacron No.2 from that sail company in Asia that gets a bagging here.
It also has an old main, average No.3, a good storm jib and 3 spinnaker with a brand new spinnaker sock.

My question is:
would it be a good idea to try and sell the good sails separately and leave the boat with the old main & No.3 and 1 spinnaker,
then advertise the boat at a much cheaper price to get rid of it quicker?

I hope you arent abandoning sailing! For my dollars worth I found when someone wants to buy a boat they dont worry much about the price - ie they have decided to buy the boat end of story. Except the mandatory bargaining. I would be inclined to mark the boats price up a bit and sell it as a great entry to racing with great sails because it is. When I was doing yacht broking from time to time a vendor would be desparate to sell his boat and drop the price heaps, usually it made no difference.

Your target market will be someone like yourself, a racer, not a cruiser. Hence sell with the good sails. Without them it will be a giveaway.

I recently bought a new business and I don't get much time to sail any more. Even if I do, it seems to be either too windy, no wind, or raining!
