Just thought I would share a pic of us sailing in a race on the Huon yesterday

Conditions were light but it was a interesting race

We sail out of Port Huon

Port Huon is the about the limit of how far up the Huon you can sail the full width of the river on any keel boat

Any further up than this you need to keep to the channel which is marked initially and than it is local knowledge

When we drove up to Huonville this morning the was a boat aground just before Franklin but it is a mud bottom so no damage should have been done

Huonville is the limit of how far a keel boat can go but most who visit stop at Franklin

This is ta local 42 footer in a race on the river a couple of months ago when we had a front come through and it was blowing 60 knots and gusting to 75

just looking at Google maps of the area. Can you readily sail up through storm bay to norfolk bay. Or what short coastal trips would you do living around that area.

Port Huon to Hobart is approx 40nm so around 6 to 8 hour sail

Haven't sailed there but Norfolk Bay would not be a problem and through the Dunalley canal to the east coast

A weekend trip from Port Huon would be anywhere in the channel though there are some nice bays along the Huon that are a easy couple of hours sail away

There is no much traffic on the river and on a perfect day you might see only half a dozen boats on the river

The channel has more traffic than the Huon but it is still fairly deserted compared to what would be the norm on the mainland
