Hi everyone, I need some advice. I managed to loose my 3rd reeding line out of the boom. Attached are some pictures. How can i replace the line without disassembling the boom? The boom is over 5m long...

You could try feeding the rope through using a garden hose water forced in and have the water push the rope through. Perhaps using a smaller cord washed through and then pull the larger size. May have to lower the end of the boom to get good water flow.

If the other lines go past, you may be able to attach a fine chord to one of them and use it to get the leader to the outlet point. If not talk to an electrician, I think they have fine spring wire devices to do something similar.

At that length dissambling could end up being the easiest and fastest solution, good opportunity to go over everything and check for corrosion and Duralac & lubricate everything that needs it.

we use a length of rod batten which any sailmaker would have ..... we have a length about 1 metre longer than the boom and feed it thro, attach a mouse and then the rope you want to replace.

Simple once you have the rod. Electricians use something similar as a mouse for feeding cables.

the yellow tongue from the chip board flooring may work .

Piece of foam on a string and a vacuum to suck it through or compressor to blow it through.

Great ideas, none of which I had thought of... I was thinking of how to add a mouse using the existing reefing line, but one end would be ok... but the other end, maybe that is where the vacuum or hose may come in handy.

I've seen an electrician suck a string through about 100m of conduit with an ordinary vacuum.

I honestly met an eccentric campsite owner who showed an article featuring him in the local paper. He'd rewired his house by attaching the cables to his Jack Russell terrier and them tempting through the required spaces with sausages.

you would have to remove the boom and place it vertical and use a drill bit attached to a piece of string
then fix the rope to the string .

Irrigation/sprinkler pipe from Bunnings it's flexible and reasonably stiff.
or whipper sniper line to push through....there is some larger diameter/stiffer available

The aim is ensure that you don't tangle the rope around the other reefing lines: and out haul:
1.pull all lines in the boom tight.
2.thread a small conduit with a venetian blind cord attached.
3.hook out the small length of venetian blind cord with a hooked piece of wire coat hanger.
4. attach the new reefing line to the cord tie it with a knot that will allow you to reeve it through the sheave gap.
5.pull out the conduit and new reef line.
6.re-reeve the reef to the inboard end of the boom.

That's how we did it when I worked at a yacht rigger.

im thinking carpet snake and mouse for a lure film it put it on you tube with proceeds from the number of hits and complaints from vegans you can buy a new boom

Recently I re- rigged my 12m mast and boom. I used small irrigation poly bought from Bunnings for about $15 for 25 m
Uncoil it in the sun and leave it stretched out overnight. You can stiffen up one end of it by pushing a piece of wire or wire cable into the end of it.
