HG looking at those pictures and knowing you are thinking about removing your mizzen i thought i would mention My boom really looks like its been lowered on the sloop rig to give extra sail area. I know his topping lift holding the boom up is probably adding a bit of an illusion but still it looks higher than mine. the position of the halyard winches looks like they are set higher as well..

I believe it was a ketch originally and the mizzen was removed.. long before my time though.

Ill leave the Mizzen mast step on the cockpit floor for now. and make a floor grate . maybe also the seats as well . I find water lays at the back of the cockpit seat a little dose not drain completely away . Nothing worse than a soggy bottom
My cushions work Ok

The hard spray dodgers look ok on a H28 but there head bangers.
I am half way through filling the old port lights and was not happy with the way a couple turned out so Ive cut them out again and will have another go tomorrow.
First time I painted down my gel coat then laid down the fiber glass also I used peal ply and it was not tight enough and wrinkled and it came through as I was fiber glassing so I waited to see how it looked and just said HG02 remove it and do it properly Dam.
So tomorrow I will not worry about Gel coat and just do the fiberglass and no peal ply. I'm using some of the roof lining as a backing plate to fill against. This will simplify things and should have a far better result . Once its dry Ill deal with the gel coat or flow coat later.

I think the fumes were getting to me at some stage.
Should have done two today and two tomorrow and left the cut outs open on one side for air < D.Head.

some weather helm that starts at about 15 degree's heel. compared to my old endeavour 24 its much better balanced. but the e24 was awful so its not really much of a comparison.

I measured from the deck to my boom at the end next to the goose neck and its 740mm hg if your interested.

L:ong story but I stay home had an RDO cleaned the oven well over due wash my car as well as my partners and redid and PC thats was over due.
I have not had a day away from the boat for months.
Yesterday will be rebooted next weekend with a few refinements Donk No peal ply thats for sure and once the inside is glassed I think I do the same to the outside of the port light cutouts which should give it more strength.
No gel coat or flow coat till later Ill do that last

Have you considered a Sailmaster 845

Same designer and similar above the waterline but a bit different below www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Sailing/General/Sailmaster-845/

Possibly a bit better access to the rear of engine and shaft due to not having the rear bulkhead to support the mizzen

The H28's may be a better prospect for crossing oceans though with the long keel and protected prop

On some walkers ketches they bring the main mast main sheet from the back of the boom across to the mizzen and down to a block at the bottom of the mizzen
in a good breeze you can drop the main and use the furling Genoa and mizzen and reduce again
the mizzen is only 7.3 square meters

What I would there is a small bulk head at the front of the stern bunks
I would mark out and cut the bunk fibreglass so you are removing a right angle on the engine side cut a parallel line basically follow the engine mount frame towards the stern of the boat much the same on the bunk horizontal
Then when it's removed make some brackets so you can remove and replace when you need to get into the engine bay it's not a structural part of the hull just furniture a tin 5inch cut off saw will make short work of it
Might sound rough but. I personally prefer to be able to get to the back of the engine bay

getting to the engine and prop shaft stuffing box is just plain nasty. I hate doing it.. I lay a pillow over the top of the engine and squeeze through. the engine bay is the worst design feature of the h28. its uncomfortable I come back with bruises over my chest most weekends when working on the engine. I find swearing and cursing kahn walker helps make things easier but I can still only last about 15 minutes semi upside down before I need a rest. also forever dropping things into the deep bilge just to add insult to injury.. and I still cant work out how they got the engine in the in the first place. why people don't use a small yanmar because again the heavy large bukh makes things so much more difficult. just changing a fuel filter cartridge turns into 3 hours of pain and suffering,

if your of large girth forget it and do wht HG said and cut out the quarter brth.. its the only way.

Is access on the H28 with the Bukh much more restricted than my Sailmaster with the Yanmar

it it would be nice to have a access hatch in the cockpit floor

Much the same Donk the under neath of the cockpit floor and bunk clearance is the restrictive part even laying down on the bunk with your head towards the stern of the boat and your arm and hand inside the engine bay its very hard to do things .

looks similar but I would say it looks a bit easier as its raised a little. the bukh mounts are slightly lower than floor level on mine
