Hi all
we spent the day down
at the Marina today applying the sponsors logos to the J24 getting her ready for the offical launch of the program tomorrow

She is a J boat sailed by generation Z teenagers so we combined the two and called her JenZ

A massive thanks to Sean Langman for his support of the program in providing a berth for her in the Kermandie Marina and to the other sponsor who have supported this program

I'd be pretty happy if I was a teenager having access to such a boat. I wish the program all the best.

Hi all

Yesterday we had our club opening day and the weather gods turned it on for us with a near perfect day both on and off the water

The j24 was out on the water and going like a train in the light breeze with three teenagers sailing her and one adult keeping an eye on things

The program was officially launched at the opening day celebration after the sail past and salute to our Club Patron, by the Mayor of the Huon Valley Council, Bec Enders who also presented us with a cheque for $1,000 grant that we have received from the Council towards the program and Juan Bird who is also one of the Councillors and runs the Geeveston Community Op Shop, who presented us with a cheque for $600 for the outboard engine

Also a massive thanks to the major sponsor of the program, Sean Langman from the Port Huon Marina and The Noakes Group who has made a berth available for the J24, Franklin Marine, Quantum Sails,, L & S Doyle Earth Moving, Geeveston , The Stihl Shop, Huonville, The Derwent Sailing Squadron, The Geeveston Pharmacy and Health Bug, DeNeefe Signs and Dean Marks Boat Building

The support that we have received from the local; community has been amazing

Well done Don! I would have loved to have had this kind of opportunity as a teenager. The boat looks fantastic, good choice there, is it really a 1975 design as Shoodbegood mentioned?

Yep she scrubbed up pretty well and looked good out on the water

When the teenagers learn to sail her well I think she will be hard to catch and a lot of fun for them

She competed in the Cock of the Huon race a few weeks ago but it was blowing pretty hard and she was a bit overpowered but i think in light to moderate winds she will be pretty quick

I haven't had the chance to take her for a sail yet but the people down here who have say she is a nice boat and we have a twilight this Thursday and it is a light forecast so we can compare her with the rest of the fleet

Have fun taking her for a sail!

Is there only one reef in the main on her? and do you have a smaller jib for stronger conditions ? I note that the pulpit design isn't great, are you thinking of modifying that at all?

She came with a full size main and a cut down main, five head sails of various sizes and two spinnakers, so we have a variety or sails to use depending on conditions

The pulpit does interfere with the head sail so we will have a look and see what if anything can be done

We have a few tidy up jobs to do on her so I will add the pulpit to the list

In the short term, you might just be able to add a strop to the track to bring it up a touch higher and help avoid the pulpit.

a good idea and I will have a look and see how much spare for stay we have above the head of the sail

We used to put wheels on top lifeline and with the right tension in lifeline and sheet, one thump of the life line by the trimmer would skirt it. Wheels have to be either side of staunchion tip.

Don I had a look at some other local j24's and they all have the same pulpit, maybe the class rules won't allow modification.
