Can you be more specific?
What does not look right?
The top part in the pic sits in matching thread?
If the weather is ok, I will look again at it tomorrow and get more pics.
I understand I must have the sails balanced and have the 'fan' pointing into the true wind.
I also understand the lines should not be two tight or stiff.

yes I have a Navik , It works very well. Had no problem with it on my ss 34. I like the quadrant set up and the break out,,, handles light wind well along with the strong wind.
I am giving it to a bloke with a ss 30 as I now use my Aries

Will my windvane work when sitting on the mooring?
I am presuming that I have wind coming over the bow.

If you have about 2 knots of tide past your boat it will work at the mooring. All you need to do really is stand at the stern and push the windvane blade sideways and check whether the oar responds correctly.

There is meant to be a U shaped frame that houses the pivoting parts. Cannot see it in your photo, but maybe it is below, and your V mount is further stiffening. Anyway all the details are in the manual posted by Ramona.

To set up,
Lock the vane in upright position by turning the lead counter weight.
Get the boat sailing along on fixed course with little or no heel.
Look at the servo oar in the water and adjust the length of the control linkage( coming trom the vane) to bring the servo oar into a straight down center position.
Now release the wind vane from the locked position and index the vane so its pointing into the apparent wind making the vane stand up.
Holding that course the vane should be upright and the ore should be straight down center. If you push and hold the vane over the oar should swing to a side. When you release it, the vane should stand up and the oar should return to center.
Now put the boat on the decided course, index the vane to the apparent wind and connect the control lines to the tiller.
That will get you into the ballpark,, it may require further tinkering depending on the conditions, your boat, sail trim etc.
Be sure to connect the control lines to the correct sides of the tiller.

I went out this morning with the intention of sailing and testing my windvane but the wind was a bit strong and then I decided it was more important to clean the boat. Two weeks of ash and bird poo to remove. Most of its gone now.
Back to the wind vane asap.

It used an autohelm to control the paddle rather than the vein.
The argued benefits are a smoother ride and a much longer life to the autohelm?

I've read a similar article. The benefits are said to be less electrical power consumption, and straighter steering to the magnetic course, yet using the power of the windvane's paddle.
I have sailed under windvane and at other times under autopilot, but never have connected them together. I haven't yet bothered. The windvane follows the wind, and sometimes the wind varies in strength, and varies in direction over time, and the WV follows them both. Sometimes that is good, as the wind varies and frees up some angle when I was pointing high. Like any machine, it is a servant and needs some supervision.
