Here she is, her name is Tern, moored Pittwater, as you can she she needs a few little jobs and her bum needs a good scrub, who knows a diver that can do it, would you believe Tern was free, given too me but got 21 days to clean her bum or RMS will have a cow.
note the furling jib, there is a god lol, give me a weekend, ill varnish the teak, fix the toe rail n varnish it, once shes cleaned ill paint the hull sides in bright polyurethane White, with my customary Marker Yellow stripe to replace this mustardy baby dung looking thing,

You will end up with a list of things that
1. have to be done.
2, need to be done.
3. you would like to do.

Removing the green slime is in category 3.

Don't sweat about what she looks like on the outside.
Category 1 are all of the things that will make her safe.
category 2 are all of the things that will make her fun and easy to sail as fast and as far as you can.
category 3 are the things that will make her look nice.

Do all of your big and small jobs in that order.
Don't fiddle around on cosmetics (like slime) if you have crappy electrics (FIRE!!) or no hand operated bilge pump.

In which category would you put good anchor gear and a reliable engine?

PS a scouring pad (and dishwashing liquid) should get rid of the slime. However is is not environmentally friendly and a power wash when she comes out for an antifoul will do it. A job for Ron.

I use "Metal Gleam". Scrub the whole boat down with it mixed 5:1, 5 parts water preferably warm. Use a soft broom. Rinse off by chucking salt water over it. For the sides with the slime use the product with a scouring pad, let it sit 2 minute and wash off. Scrape that shell off the bottom with a long handled scraper. I use one with about a six foot handle. This will keep the boating officer off your back.
You can use deck cleaners with oxalic acid in them too but I find the metal gleam the best.

I would suggest fully furling the headsail as well and leave about 5 wraps of the sheet around the sail to hold it secure. Sails furled like that have very short lives where I live in Westerly gales!

I was only searching for an old post of yours about this a couple of days ago, I had forgotten the name of it, I'll have to give it a try.
I can attest to the oxalic acid, I did my topsides a few days ago. I bought the powder from Bunnings and mixed it at 10%. Brushed it on and left for 10 mins before liberal rinsing. Works incredibly well on stainless , a bit better than the gelcoat. But all my rust stains on the gelcoat disapeared wiwth a couple of applications.
I especially like the non scrubbing nature of chemical reactions. Beats truck wash and a brush for the muscles .

Good pick up! I've seen Tern many times, just sitting there forlorn. It may be cheaper, and easier to lift her out and give her a good wash and antifoul. Careel Bay Marina do mine for about $1300. Sounds expensive, but at least you will know the condition of the hull and you'll have fresh antifoul. I don't think Tern has been lifted for about three years looking at that growth and you'll probably want to have the peace of mind that the hull is all good, as well as the skin fittings.

The other comments are on the money. Don't worry about cosmetics until the safety issues are all checked out.

Having one leg at the moment and the new one is getting close, im probably going to have to con someone to hop on her climb inside and check things out, it uses an outboard , i imagine her electrics are spartan and limited to running lights n a battery.
Thats nice but its also my first port off call, solar panel, auto bilge pump will ease my mind,
I do know the mooring was done not long ago and she is regoed, i am going to flog one of my glass boats to get a lil dinky, I can bop around the outside with a scraper on a stick n a stiff broom, if I get it looking half decent the RMS might leave her alone,
Ontop it doesnt need alot the teak needs doing, top saftey wire needs re hanging.
scrubbing the top ill scratch my head on.
