Hi there brains trust
Anyone know where I could source these latches?
They are throughout the galley and head areas of my mid-eighties built Mottle 33 and some are close to needing to be replaced.
Thanks.
How bad is the pitting? I would imagine the easiest (and possibly the cheapest) option would be to sandblast and paint or even have them re-plated.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem
to be a supply of scrapyard boat parts. Not here in the west anyway.

Thanks Toph.
Will look into it.

Hmmm....that's actually a great idea Toph.
A boat wreckers. I was just thinking of how much you could re-purpose, even off a small yacht.
Tracks, portholes, travellers, booms, turning blocks, deck organisers, electronics, bimini frames, safety lines, toerails, anchor rollers, rudders, rudder assemblys, davits, vangs, tiller brackets.
Add a rechroming/ plating section, and refurbish all the shiny bits.
Wiring and fiberglass is about the only thing I would flick, even tinned wire after 30 yrs is a bit naff.
I really like that idea, I wonder if my wife would shoot me or just divorce me?
There would be a high chance one of the two would happen Shaggy.
The idea might have merit, but what could you do with the fibre glass hulls? Wood, steel, aluminium could be recycled. Even a ferro cement hull could probably be crushed and reused somewhere. But fibreglass is is hard.
Wavesong, do you have a photo of where the latch has come off. We might be able to give you a few more replacement options..

All that sort of stuff from the 2 Folkboats wrecked last week are now in a skip bin on the way to landfill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Boat Locker in Mona Vale NSW deals soley in second hand boat bits. They could be a scource if you can shoot them a pic of what you need.

I think you're gonna have a nightmare of a time trying to match those. I would still lean towards sandblasting and either paint or re-plate.
Or start changing the locks out completely. On a couple of my doors I've actually left the locks in place for cosmetic looks but replace the actual function of the locks with magnets
