Well, he does get around - I've also seen this anchored in the Brisbane River. One of our members, too, unless there is more than one boat in Australia with this rig.

I think it's a trawler, just lower the arms out to get a very wide spread on the net. Then retrieve the net up the bum where the tender sits.
I bet it has a whopping big motor too

When i used to work for a shipwright at a yard down here we used to call boats like that Heart Break Hotel !!

I personally wouldn't knock it... She's a cruiser and she's cruising not like some boat owners I know she's proburly at lizard island as we type, that mast design as been around for years. it could be a bilge keeler which would improve stability.

There was a steely built here in Greenwell Point with a lattice mast. It had a narrower base than the one in the photos and a gaff as well. After some delays I believe she is in Queensland. She was originally built for the owner to return to Holland.

One advantage is there's no trouble climbing it to fix something.
Or perhaps the plan showed a normal mast but they had a crease in it.

I met the owner, awesome young bloke just out doing his thing. His father built albatross many moons ago and it was a Trimaran for most of its life. She's 70ft long, has 3 motors, 3 keels and draws only a meter roughly. I think she can be a bit rolly but the owner get around and sails it solo, quiet a feat considering its his first boat.

It is what it is, but I don't owe anything on it!
its fit for perpose, east coast reef areas .
its 80 feet 38 ton and draws about 1.2m.
i single hand it ,and have done so since I bought it.
its the only vessal I have ever put a sail up on,and had no sailing experience of any kind before .
i have had many people come on to have a look ,most who sailed saw past the looks to the practicality of is design.
i have so much room inside. That three cabins are empty..
and it will stand on a sand bar to clean the hull.
it may not Be for everyone ,but as a live aboard. cruising boat it dose me.

Should head up the cape and around to weipa I will be there tomorrow for a couple of weeks great cruising. P.s if you head up the river in Cooktown you will find a breakwater boat ramp watched I guy hooking some big Barra there a couple of nights ago under the lights.

Nice mate I have been to weipa a number of times and have always found work there with various company's. Rio Tinto is a bit slow but I believe it's picking up. Thrifty car rentals , mechanics, machineists , tourism etc. if you have accomodation and your set! I'm paying $450 to fly a 2 hour flight tomorrow for 2 weeks work . Most land based accom is around $300 to $400 per Week. its tidal and combinded with trade winds can be crap on a yacht in the harbour. Best to live in Roberts creek and commute by tiny. Do you have aircon? Rent out your cabins you won't even need to work!

I would charge $200 per week per person. Pick up and delivery to the ramp, meals and beverages included. All for cash you would make a killing! I was paying $300 for a self contained 1 bed donger with no view!

That sounds good however then I would have to live with others and not have the freedom that owning a boat is all about.

if the wind is favourable I sail ,if it drops out I crank up the centre main engine.

its comfortable.
