While I've been refitting the old girl I gave an induction cooker a go, cheap enough, if it's an epic fail it will be of use at home nothing to loose.

So at 12v via 3000w renogy inverter it takes 25ah to boil a potato ( cut up) or a single serve of rice or pasta, around 2ah to espresso a mug of coffee. A minimum of 200ah battery to be able to deliver the draw from the inverter & cook while the sun is shining it's sort of feasible. I will probably get a single burner ? To use when it's feasible, they are flat & easy to stow (perhaps a pull out draw/ shelf ) with a big battery bank I think they have a lot of merit. But for now the Broadwater is back in its original place

I use that sort of setup and it works fine.$50 Kmart single induction hot plate.

Thanks for that info Woko. Many times when I was playing do or dare lighting my metho stove I wondered about a two burner induction cook top. I'll stick with the metho. But I do have a 12V Camping oven that works OK for heating pies and bowls of soup.

Induction limits . 1000w setting = 100amp burn @ 12v via a reasonable inverter. A 2 burner ? Cooker with say 1000w hot plate & a 1400w hot plate will consume 2400w or 240amp at 12v. Obviously you don't have to run induction flat out all the time it can be moderated like gas to get the right heat, but it does have an on / off cycle rather than a hot ( more gas) or less hot trip

Actually sorry I haven't used it for quite some time so I can't tell you. I use the on board microwave to boil coffee water not the hot plate as it is faster same as at home. I mainly go away with the Clubman now rather than the Northshore because I'm exploring more far flung places that I need to get to at 100+ kph (school holidays). I was happy with it when I used it however.
Actually I've now got a bigger battery on the Clubman than the two house on the North shore combined but space is at a premium so I've haven't added a big ass inverter. Don't use the metho stove that was standard on it either. I just use one of those butane camp stoves and mostly outside when I can get away with it.

As I'm sure you are aware whatever your appliances are rated at you need to get a considerably bigger inverter (I have a powerful vacuum cleaner on the Northshore as well). I initially undersized my inverter. Actually it was an eBay Chinese one which should have been oversized according to its specifications but wasn't. After a bit of experience looking at reliable brand inverters in bricks and morter stores you can filter the BS specifications by looking at the dimensions of the thing and the weight. Obviously the length and thickness of the wire to the inverter is also critical.

I use the same kmart single induction hot plate in my house as I have on the Northshore and the specs are as in the picture below. As with all induction you need good cookware that doesn't waste any excitation energy.
