Hi Guys, After a little information and pictures of what everyone is running for their boom Vang. the current setup i have is to far away from the cockpit so i want to run it to the side though the deck organizer along with the halyards back to the cockpit :) Show me what you got! Cheers

When you set it up make sure you can reach the line in front of the jam cleat as you will want to see how much pressure you have on.

I can't quiet reach mine and will have to move it back about 20cm sometime in the future.

plenty of heel , small jib , main reefed? and storm boards in

Previous owners crossing Bass Straight in Sydney Hobart race.

Can someone please enlighten me regarding Bass Strait? Why during a Sydney Hobart race are yachts referred to as "crossing" Bass Strait when in fact they never enter Bass Strait but stay entirely in the Tasman Sea. The Eastern limit of Bass Strait is defined as being from Gabo Island to East Sister Island.

If by the "media" you include the so called professional yachting commenters, then yes, the media.

Rob Mundle is one of the chief protagonists, quite often I have heard him describe the race as "The yachts are now entering the most dangerous phase of the race as they attempt to cross Bass Strait", mind you, he is not alone, there are many others that call the race the same way.

I guess if they describe it as "crossing the Tasman sea" people might think they're a little lost :-)

No, I would prefer them to say that they approaching the Tasmanian coast after having left the mainland.

If you wish to call it Straight instead of Strait, I'm fine with that .... your choice

To get back to the original question, I remembered to take some pics of my set up today. I faced much the same situation with my vang and Cunningham controls located at the base of the mast.
The pics aren't the best but a couple of deck mounted blocks and some cam cleats and the control has been shifted to beside the traveller within easy reach of the main sheet hand.

Keep it simple.
