I was looking at this motor on ebay and I was wondering if any forum members had first hand experience with these little outboards. I am only looking at it as an alternative to tender oars, trips to the shore and back to the boat. I assume it would draw less attention and be less tempting to steal as well.

Hangkai 3.6 HP Outboard - Is it good or is it bad?
Yes!

Hi Seabreazy
I can't add anything about the quality of the outboard, but I can assure you that you are assuming incorrectly.
An outboard could be made of cardboard and it would still be a target.
I suggest you look at rowing as a zen exercise for your body and mind.
That is if you have a hard tender.
gary
I found a review after 25 hours of operation.
The guy mentions that he is using it on a lake, so I would assume fresh water use.
Note the exhaust outlet from the head.

I seen those vids, but after loosing (got stolen) the previous tender with the tohatsu I don't want to necessarily invest in anything too expensive and second hand units cost almost as new ones. Also, I have given the roving a go with the new inflatable, but that is just impossible for several reasons.
Terrible. Buy yourself a merc 3.3 $770 new
tha ks, but the 2 hp merc would not do much for my needs and I was quoted $1200 for the 3 hp, which I am not willing to pay
Personally, l would not touch anything chinese
if l had a reasonable alternative.
Not just outboard motors but anything. I try to seek for products NOT made in the prc.![]()
Yeah. I understand what you are saying Breazy.
With an inflatable you basically have to have an outboard.
And small outboards are SO light that even a kid could walk away with one.

agreed, but exactly that is why I am considering it. Maybe others willing to go for a joy ride would think the same nd NOT STEAL my dinghy.
I bought a Chinese outboard on eBay few years ago. I cannot recall the brand but it looks very similar.
I thought that I might get a couple of years out of it, then buy something better. The thing ran for about 15 minutes, overheated, melted the cowl, the stop button would not work. I ended up using the choke to get it to stop. Absolute rubbish.
My point exactly - beside helping an obnoxious regime - punishing ourselves financially and mentally for no reason.![]()
I have a 5.8hp parsun. We have had it for 5 or 6 years have it serviced each year & it is still going strong. I question the HP rating, but it suits our needs. Cheers.
