I love his videos and they were an inspiration to the purchase of my Currawong.

One of my first trips was to go that exact same bay and anchor with the same ground tackle.

we only got 25knots though as per forecast

If there is one thing you need it is a good anchor. I am happy with my Sacra Excel. One in the video is the exact same make, model and size anchor as mine on a much bigger boat. Misfortune of sitting out the same wind strength with way bigger seas. They were also really helpful when I made enquiries to confirm it would fit through my bowsprit, Highly recommended.

You have just done a few big blows on a lee shore to

27lbs = 12.25kg .. slightly on the low side? How big is his yacht (looks about 33)?

I can appreciate a well designed anchor but how about a little margin in a big blow..

It's a Currawong 30 same as mine. My anchor is a 13 kg SS copy of an ultra. I only use 4 metres of 10mm chain and it's safe in over 50 knots. Unfortunately I have had to experience that. 4 kg of that is lead.

Yes I know, not trying to be a "topper", i knew a blow was coming, it was fun actually and was holding well, I was tucked up nicely behind mangroves, with very little fetch

Not the same as in the Crookhaven river with a strong incoming tide against a Westerly, boats sit sideways and the waves pass over the hulls. Last year I had to recover my boat off the beach using my anchor and the change in tides. Took 3 days and the boat took a hammering. 13 kg Ultra copy held easily.
Last weekends Westerlies must have been an eye opener for some of the local owners with a large hightide running in during the day. I watched 45+ footers facing rougher conditions than these boats would ever see at sea! Only one yacht came off it's mooring. Tophat chafed through 40mm of new Seagreen riser. Rescued by one of the professional fishermen with just a few scuffmarks!

Good to see posts reinforcing my happy Sarca Excel experiences. My best is about 40+ knots (no wind instrument) in Garden Cove at Deal Island. It was an unpleasant 36 hours of gusty winds, but the Excel held fast.

Granny Smith looks like she's in the cove on the north side of Trouser Point. The holding is pretty good there, but the hinterland is flat, sloping up to Mt Strzelecki, which funnels the wind into the bay, hence 50+ knots.

Lovely to have an anchor you can trust.
