What am I doing wrong?

I've got a good set of Selma FID's, new Donaghy's Double Braid, but I just can't get a good eye splice with the cover back over the core over the cover?

I'm having trouble getting the FID with the core back through the cover far enough past where the core first exits. Is there a secret?

This then seems to then stuff up getting the cover back over the core for the finish on the eye.

I've watched a few youtube videos as well as the following the Selma guide, that seem to show it as an easy process, but for me it is just not working.

Am I missing something?

As I thought, 1/2 a bottle of wine and then have another crack. First one the eyelet ended up a bit too big and will require a bit more pulling through, after that, they worked out ok I think! See how they go tomorrow on the new kite!

Ah yes, for difficult problems you often need lubricant... I prefer the red type myself

Good to see people using the good quality Wichard Snap Shackles and Quick release. As they are 17.4ph and not 316 stainless give them a wash when you clean the boat and they will work like the day they were bought for years to come. (And have the 10 year warranty to back it up!, try to get that from ron or stan....)

Imagine what you could've achieved if you consumed the whole bottle

You'd probably need a whole case of chuckle medicine to get over the anxiety that 'Super Braid" causes. Double Braid is a much more enjoyable/ rewarding experience.

Well it's my turn to get frustrated next. I have just purchased a few hundred meters of double braid with the intention of replacing most of my lines and having spliced ends.
In the past I have whipped and stitched my ends but splices are so much better.
It seems I forgot a very important ingredient, better get down to the bottle shop. Do they sell red by the gallon ?????

I could not help you with splicing - l could not be bothered with it after watching my mate from Scarborough to Newcastle to finish two splices for my runners - but l would go half with you on a roll of Donaghy's best as long as it is n o t red or yellow.
Every rope seems red and yellow on my boat, l would need some colour-variation.
