Hi all,

I need to fit a holding tank and am thinking about adding an electric toilet as part of the project. The logic being that a macerator is required, so why not include with the toilet?

Does anyone have experience with either the Jabsco or TMC toilets? I am concerned about reliability issues with the electric toilets, what have people's experiences been?

Bubble said to me his TMC was good value and worked ok I bought one but did not realize that the model I purchase was the scaled up version . I did fit it ,but have taken it out siting in the bed room probably waiting for e bay and I still have to change out my sea cocks to gate valves so Im in no hurry its never been used in anger or any thing else

I had a TMC in my charter yacht years ago and it performed well. The electric motor is re-buildable and be sure it will need rebuilding at some stage.

Parts are readily available and not too expensive. I think I got two rebuilds out of mine before I had to buy a new motor and that was over 5 years.

As far as I am aware (in Qld at least) if you have an electric toilet with built in macerator, there is no requirement for a holding tank as long as you only discharge in open waters.

If you have a porta pottie for close waters, I think the legislation is satisfied.

Check the legislation as I can't think of anything worse than having a holding tank.

A mate had one that he built using 100 mm pvc sewerage pipe with glued on end caps and pvc inlet and outlet cocks etc. Somehow the vent got blocked, it fermented and built up gas pressure and burst spraying you know what everywhere.

Not a pretty sight.

Did it hit the fan? No? Then not a major event. (Or there had to be photos or it didn't happen.)

Electric toilet is just a scaled up blender there is a huge difference between a jabsco and a tmc i will keep my manual jabsco whatt a fine bit of gear....
by the way bit of advice flush the waste first then use the paper that way when the paper blocks the blades you are only dealing with skid marks

Cracks me up how they bring in laws on holding tanks, very few places to empty them it is ok for them to have over 70 sewage outlets dumping into the hawksbury .
It only needs to look like a holding tank health and safety wont let them open it and look inside specially when you let them know to put safety gear on as you have hep c. ha ha

thanks for the replies. Yes, the legislation re holding tanks and pump out facilities is a bit of a joke.

I have a couple of reasons for fitting the tank. Firstly to comply with the legislaton but mainly because I never enjoy a morning dump in a crowded anchorage where people are swimming. So I will fit the holding tank and use when there are other boats close. The waste will end up in the sea regardless, just in a different location.

Another option for emptying the tank is to motor around until I find a wake-boarder, then dump the stuff there. (any wakeboarders on the forum?) I just love the way they use a boat on anchor in a nice quiet bay as a turning mark.

This pump flush tmc has raw water inlet snapped off,so its scooping flush water from over the side...
Why is the nearest boating department store10 kays from nearest beach!!!
Here is a plastic 3 way valve from 200L black water but never drains out in half way pos. Could it be designed for pump out only or is someone still throwing a book of 'funny jokes and dirty tricks to play on people' at me?
