Hi all

The cockpit mat is falling apart and i am going to replace it tomorrow

Thinking of going with the same Vynalite tube mat www.brierleyhose.com.au/matting.html but is anyone using something else that may be a better alternative

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I have the ribbed marine carpet lasted years in cockpit and feels good when im barefooted

I was looking at some stuff in K mart and Bunnings a days or so ago

I have the vynalite, the problem with it is that it feels good , doesn't get hot, drops dirt through the mat stopping it entering the cabin but over 20 years it ages and loses some colour and still works as if it's new so that you don't need to replace it for any reason other than cosmetic. I'd like a shinier new mat but can't justify it.

Vinylite is much better than standard tube mate, it's grippier, lasts longer and doesn't get stuff up the tubes!!

Hobart branch is showing black, blue, red and grey @ 915mm wide in stock. We actually call it Flexirib in our system, normally $82.76 p/m, tell them Ben said to give you 20% off!!!

OTB suggestion, how about some nice fake turf instead

I had some of that in my cockpit for a short time but l hated it and chucked it on the heap.
It collected all the craps underneath, scratching and marking the floor something shocking, it was always moist and slipped within the cockpit under load.
No more mats for me ever again.


I still got some in the head, thou.
l got the piece, still, it is 620*1020mm, free to a good home!

I need to replace mine but don't know what to use as it is a steel floor and it mustn't be allowed to trap water for obvious reasons
Is there anyone out there using something on a steel cockpit floor

The flexi-rib may be ok because the cross pieces that sit on the floor have drainage grooves in them

Than is a good question

Not really sure why i need one other than there was one in the boat when i bought it a couple of years ago and it looks nicer than plain fibreglass

A few good reasons,

- grip, old cockpit soles can get slippery
- protection, from droppong winch handles and damaging the floor
- clean, helps dirt drop through off shoes and then you don't step in the dirt when about to climb down stairs, especially if its a bit wet

also it feels better underfoot than the bare deck in my opinion, not as firm

Is there somewhere in Australia where teak mouldings can be bought to make a grate for the cockpit? Looking at some old pictures, my boat used to have them, but they're gone.

Hi almost any specialist timber yard will stock teak, but be prepared for price shock.
