Assume you mean the white plastic flat 6 pin rectangular connector? Has it got a hooked tab on the other side?

Nearest I can suggest is a 6 Pin miniature nylon MOLEX-Type connector www.jaycar.com.au/6-pin-miniature-nylon-molex-type-connector/p/PP2025. The metal contacts come separate to the plastic housing. It is OK for signal transmission.

Why wouldn't you buy both ends of a three pin connector and replace the one you've got, since it looks like it is only connecting 3 wires? Or are you looking to add additional contacts in the existing plug/housing? If so, and the Molex isn't the go, there're several types of automotive connectors where the contacts come separate to the housing. You may be able to find one that you can use the contacts from for your housing/connection.

There's 4 wires 3 pvc sheathed & 1 bare copper that gme has done a dodgy splice job to the pvc ( black wire ) it's unsurprising that it failed. The contact crimp fittings fit inside the white connections. It's also no surprise that while the cord is advertised widely no one has it in stock. I will have a look in Jaycar. I'm also waiting a reply from curly cords. If I really had to I could do some dodgy splicing of my own, but I like things like vhf to be beyond question

Both ends of defunked unit

looks like one end is 6 pin and the other 8 pin, although only 4 pins in use at each end. And the 8 pin houing looks like it s smaller scale, so maybe 2mm or less pitch between pins/sockets, if the 6 pin one is 2.5mm pitch

Yep you've got a pretty good handle on it. There wouldn't be an issue if the initial cable was 4 core pvc sheathed & no bodgey splicing. The unit is not in an exposed position. Thanks again for your input. Curly cords have the 4 x pvc, if I can pin the female crimps it's an easy fix & there's probably thousands of these units out there. Cheers

In the end I could have had the cord remade for $98+gst the Gx700 sells for $220 ish, not worth the fooling around for a vital bit of kit. As a side the white cords seem more prone to deterioration. Apparently using the unsheathed wire in the cord is common practice.
