at the moment both depth sounder and speedometer don't work

I need to replace them I want something I can load charts on, remove when not in use and something that will tell me to pull the keel up when I'm about to hit the bottom. What's not going to brake the bank!!! What have you found works well. I'm not interested in looking at fish just knowing we're my keel is.

Hi ...
I have a careel 18

I use my phone for navigation via navionics app
also can read depth with this wireless sounder
https://shop.vexilar.com/en/sonar-phone-/sonarphone-whs-transducer-phone-not-included--sp200
the sounder is compatible with navionics and shows a depth reading on your map screen
the transducer can shoot through a fibreglass hull too

works for me

Please do

I don't think it will work through the hull in my boat though I did some repair work to the hull today and worked out that the hull is a foam sandwich thus the skin fitting with the paddle wheel and transponder . So I will have to find a similar transponder

I just used a little Lowrance GPS/fishfinder for $250-$449. I don't fish but I do like seeing what's on the bottom, so I don't anchor over seagrass. You can also take the unit off the yacht and put it in a dinghy for exploration or leading the big boat into anchorages. The transducer is transom mounted, which may be a hassle.

I use a little Hummingbird depth sounder/chart plotter that I got for 30$ on Gumtree... I have mounted the transducer in the bilge in mineral oil bath and it seams to work well, still have to test the system in open water.

You can mount the transducer on the transom too ...

My boat has a false floor / inner skin ... so had to cut through that to get to the hull
i cut a hole slightly bigger than the shape of the transducer and stuck it to the hull with clear silicone
works really well ...

I mounted the box under my switch panel ... but it could go anywhere really

some screen shots below of it working with it's own app and navionics

Nice

I bought a wi-fish and found a place in the boat where the boat has been extended where the glass is sold I'm planning on cutting a Tupperware container up and glueing it to the hull filling it with water to test it?

All you need to test the transducer is to put it in a plastic bag full of water sealed around the cable, hold the transducer flat against the hull and check the screen for noise. Doing ir this way you can move it around to find the best spot.
For permanent installation Garmin recommend using engine coolant .
