While we are discussing anchor lights the other post, I thought I'd throw this one in
I'm sitting on the hook at my favourite spot in Sydney Harbour. Went to turn the anchor light on at dusk, but nothing.
Strange, it worked last weekend for the four nights I was out.
Every other switch on the panel works fine. Checked the fuse, it's ok.
I have no idea what it could be.

Any suggestions?

Globe knackered?

I thought that too, but I have 2 lights up top, I can't see why both have gone.

Switch could be screwed, try hot wiring it, from another good switch or main line it from the battery

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Yep. I agree with Saltiest, keep flicking the switch 'till it works!

Tried many times, no go.

Are you sure one globe didn't go ages ago and was unnoticed until the second one now went?

Definitely had two working last week, and I checked every night to confirm both were working.

The indicator light on the panel comes on when I switch the anchor light to ON. Surely that would mean the switch is ok, wouldn't it?

OK, I'm making this up as much as the next guy.
But my mind might now be going towards a bit of wiring being damaged up top.

I don't know whether your two globes are in a single lamp or two completely independent and somewhat separated lamps. But corroded connections in the lamp or wiring chewed through by a bird would be my next line of thought.

Have you been up the mast?

After that I'd probably give up and call an electrician

Negative wire.... presuming both have the same negative wire, possibly loose, corrosion or broken. Panel light would be on common negative rail in switchboard.
Try checking resistance near mast entry, or harness up and climb the stick.... or.... if your globes are in series, one dead means the other won't work... not sure how that works with LED though

Thanks Tamble and Cabron, I'll be looking at all of these, I think its going to come down to corrosion or birds. Even with binoculars I couldn't see any trouble, but I did see the front half of the wind indicator was missing(chewed?), so....
At least a trip up the mast will give me the chance to update the only lights onboard that aren't LED (and a new indicator it seems!)
