Currently Cat 7, and a daysailor
What would be my limitations regarding offshore racing?
Would I have to make any structural changes

looks great value for money if going offshore cockpit volume will be an issue with companion way low and would need to check volume against drain sizes check blue book also check bilge system

I don't like to say it publicly, but it's never seemed to go as well as it should. For example, in recent twilights it's handicapped slower than Cavalier 350s

Good of you to say so
I thought the same, but I have a hunch it may have been the crew.

That is (to put it delicately) a fair point, but I think she had similar results under a previous owner.

I am taking on board what you are saying.
I see Akela won its race (Div 1 Spin) in the 1978 Australia Day Regatta?

Hi Ramona,
I am seriously considering this, so looking for any issues you can see.
Were you making a point with the1991 launch date?
I am keen to know the weight as I would have to update my mooring.

I've seen this boat at CYC and often wondered if engulfed in large wave where all the water would go. The cockpit looks low in the water. Is there drainage?

In last years CYCA Winter Series, Akela came fourth, four points behind the winner Scarlet O'hara, so I am thinking with a good crew they may do well?

I haven't considered what upgrades would be necessary to race offshore?
Any ideas?

Certainly a lot of boat for the money and I reckon it would be the ideal harbour racer. If I had a crew and wanted to race offshore I would look at something like this that's designed for offshore racing with a crew.

Does the cockpit self drain ? If yes i think the blue blue book has a ratio for size of drain holes compared to cockpit volume . I would **** my pants if a green one landed in that cockpit .
great buy to race in the harbor
Ramona is right the dubois is the go for a budget off shore racer / and double as short term a cruiser

Yeah, even with cockpit drains the appropriate size, there's also rules about how low the companionway can be and accessing the cabin from inside and out to consider.

Harbour racing is mostly what I plan to do with it.
The rest was speculation.

No mate ,Melb. I was on her just after her launching . Funny could have sworn timber mouldings below were laminated but see that she was totally stripped inside and out and repainted a few years back.

It isn't (or doesn't feel like) that long since she was painted. They stripped her right back for a refurb, and after much deliberation decided that she looked better in white. Powerful boat, especially upwind, with about the same performance +/- as a Northshore 38. Well cared for, with good (from what I've seen racing against her) sails.

Two things...

IMHO Jutson designed more dogs than not, the boat would want a pretty hot racing record for me to look at seriously!
Secondly, if you'd like me to have a closer look at the Dubuios 40, PM me :))

How about this for harbour racing in Sydney
www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/sailing-boats/fred-barrett-richardson-11m-a-real-weapon-performance-plus/230068
Built in 2015 and the build and fit out cost would far exceed the asking price and definitely no issues with cockpit drains

Regards Don

Yes but that's on arbitrary handicap. It has zero relationship to being a fast boat or well sailed , just as I could beat tiger woods if gave me a big enough handicap but it would not show that I was a better player or had good clubs. It's a simple system in which a boat or crews quality are irrelevant
