I nearly fell into a trap today - I'm going for my Coxswains NC ticket and a medical is required by AMSA.
I found out that not all General Practices can do an "AMSA medical". Those that can, charge about $520!![]()
The thing is, for a Coxswains NC an "AMSA medical" is not what is required, only an eye test certificate (form 542) and a medical fitness test (form 559).

Turns out the full AMSA medical is only required for International tickets.
I rang the local GP and told them exactly what I needed, they can do the two tests for just under half the price!![]()
So if anyone is thinking of getting their Coxswains NC ticket, be careful what you ask for when booking with a GP, as they might try and stiff you for the full medical - including chest Xray!
I had to renew my master 5 a few years back in cairns a quick health check was all that was needed cost me $80 and I just tick all the boxes NO which is mostly true. I understand that our AMSA tickets are not recognised internationally.

You were renewing your ticket that's why you paid less.
A medical for a new ticket is more thorough.
And anyway, there is less of you than there is of me - so it should be cheaper![]()
